After a rebuild, I’m finally back to using Lomac – I’ve successfully patched to 1.02 and downloaded a selection of enhancing files from Lomacfiles.com. Most suggest I should be using "Loman”. I downloaded & installed it but when I try to run it -it looks as if it defaults to a lower screen resolution than my desktop (which is 1024 x 768 ) because the perimeter of it disappears from view at each edge of the screen.

When I used to apply enhancements in the ”flanker” series, you could simply back up & then overwrite the various files in the appropriate flanker folder. The readme’s upon extracting the files aren’t much help and the link to the “Loman tutorial” from the checksix site doesn’t seem to be working either - so any help would be appreciated

Thanks in advance

Most textures in LOMAC use dds compression to reduce their memory footprint. However, this means that simply replacing the files will no longer work since they are bunched together in dds files. The only way I know to insert a modified texture into one of those is LOMAN.

That said, you can take the textures from the archive that you downloaded and place them manually in the 'TempTextures' (don't quote me on the name, but should be close enough ;\) ) folder in the LockOn/Bazar directory. The sim will look for textures named like the original ones in there and will use those instead if any exist. Expect to see a performance decrease (magnitude depends on how powerful your computer is) with high-resolution skins though, remember that no compression is applied to them if you do this.

The reason why most readme files are so brief is because LOMAN *is* the best way to install mods, once you have it working correctly \:\) It's also somewhat unusual for it to cause any problems, so the best solution is probably to get LOMAN up and running.

Success – at least I think so – in spite of the mis-match in the resolution I can, at least see the “install” button. A bit of “trial & error” showed me how to operate the program, and I can always close it with “alt+F4”. It is comforting when faced with an “never met before” problem to hear someone else is having the same problem – it does tend to suggest the problem lies with the program rather than just with me. (an option in the ”options” to vary the resolution might be helpful)

Anyway the real reason for me adding to the thread is – can anyone tell me how to include a photo with a post ? I may have something that might be of interest.

LOMAN normally runs in windowed mode which means that you should be able to resize it as you see fit, no?

Anyway to post a picture in your message, upload the image in question to a host who will allow remote linking. Next, copy the path to the file (the adress, in other words) and paste it into your message. Add so-called image tags to make the text look like this: [img] address [/img]
(Leave out the spaces on either sides of 'address', seems the forum software adds those if the address does not point to a real image) That should do it.

Here are step by step instructions on how to post a photo in the forum:

http://www.simhq.com/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=121;t=003486

I wrote this in response to someone who asked the very same question over in the SFP1 forum. I'm kind of a dope and I to keep things real simple with these sorts of techie things. I hope that it helps you.

Thanks to all who gave me advice on posting a pic. This is my first attempt so we’ll see how it goes – apologies if I cock it up. – I don’t really know what I did wrong above I posted this message then tried to post the pic but all I appear to have posted was the pic – any way – I’ll master it in time.

T o Trident – yes you’re right – Loman does seem to run in a “windowed mode” but on one of my other pc.s, where I’ve got the previous version installed - the window fills but doesn’t exceed the screen – you can move the window but not resize it – ie. Moving the mouse pointer to the edge of the window doesn’t give you the option to “drag” it smaller and, of course, If you could – it wouldn’t help if the window edges are “off” the monitor screen.

Anyway back to the pic – this is my attempt at enhancing my simming experience.

That's yours? Flat out amazing! Do you have any idea how hard it is to get just that Suncom HOTAS (I've been trying for a looong time, lol)? You're one lucky guy \:\)

Yes It Is - it "resides" in a cupboard under the stairs. Since I've been asked a few times about it - I created a website to tell the story - the address is:

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/pav.ladds/index.html

Hope it's of interest.

I found a couple of Masterpilots on Ebay, but it says they work with Windows 95. Will thay work with XP? What system are you using?

my system now uses XP home - and the MP's work fine. I think the restriction is referring to the programming - it's true you can only program them using win'95. - luckily I'd programmed mine on an old computer 2 or 3 years ago for:
F4 (prog 1)- I remapped the keys for F15 & F18
flanker (prog 2) - this is close enough for Lomac
EECH (prog 3)
& ef2000 & TAW (prog 4)
I'd say get them - especially if they come with a programmer. There is (or was) a very good article on "daisy chaining" master pilots on combat sim that you may find of interest. If it's no longer available - I still have it & can Email a copy to you - a link to my address is on page 4 of my website - see link above
all the best

Thanks MerlinUK1, I'm going to bid on it and the programmer (which is listed seperately for some reason).
