Why is a Penis by itself obscene - honest question? I could understand if they had written the F-Word or something similar, but first and foremost a Penis is a body part with - the majority of it's time - mostly a non-sexual function.

There's a lot of obscene things I can do with my mouth and fingers, yet drawing them somewhere will not be considered obscene.

It depends on where you draw them and who the audience is. That being said, flight officers should not be drawing penises in the sky (even though there could be a book somewhere with that title). There's probably a military regulation against "offensive flying" (not to mean you can't go on the offensive against the enemy). Flight officers should let it "all hang out" in the bathroom or bedroom ...but not in the sky.

Are we allowed to post penises at SimHQ ? NO

Even OG who flies a plane cannot post them here in CH and I doubt he would encourage anyone to post them in sky

These United States of America
Yes, I get the military, locker room, baseball dugout dynamic. I've been there. It has always been there and it always will been there. Its in the human condition. BTW I knew someone would jump at showing a old GI photo with guys being guys but then that shows how many of you are totally missing it. Those bazooka cocked soldiers would not be walking down main street USA as school lets out as it would not have been viewed as acceptable or tolerated for that matter. Most of you all are conveniently ignoring the reality that this kind of behavior was not done in public, encouraged and celebrated openly like it is today. It would have been frowned upon and likely even dealt with in some fashion. In the bunkhouses and barracks yes but not flaunted openly as society in general would not stand for it. It was not the acceptable norm. People behaved in public with often a different and better set of manners. There's certain shops or back alleys or sides of town you'd go to for that or even in the not so distant past behind a curtain in the back of a video rental. It wasn't in your face. You all are ganging up on one person and ridiculing them to make yourselves feel better and justified by what you are doing. You are making the decision to not get it which means that you do. I'm surprised and disappointed that some of the older ones among you are not getting it either and are not understanding the cusp of what I'm addressing. There used to be a certain expectation of public decency and dignity in one's behavior and how they interacted with others in open, public society. Behind closed doors, under red lights, on the football field, in the locker rooms or on a battlefield etc is what it always has been and always will be but there used to exist traditionally, a restraint to keep that from spilling over into the public affairs and goings on of public day to day life. It was a poor decision in bad taste on the part of those pilots in my opinion.

Sure was great when certain classes of people knew to stay on the back of the bus, use their own specific restrooms, and not cause any rabble rousin'. Didn't need to be showin' their faces n' public, that's fer sure.

As for these guys...

Was it a boneheaded move? Yes.
Was it obscene? Also yes.
Should they be punished for it? Naturally.
Is the world going to stop turning because of it? No.
How much impact will this have on all these people in their daily lives? Little, if any.

For a generation that talks about "no supervision" and "free range parenting" of growing up, it seems a lot of people have a burr up their tail over nothing.

"Dad, what's that in the sky?"
"Well, son, that's a drawing by those Navy guys. You'll understand once you get older."

Well... You know what they say...

"You have been raised up from Brutality, to kill the Brutals who multiply, and are legion. To this end, Zardoz, your God, gave you the gift of the Gun. The Gun is good."
"The Penis is evil. The Penis shoots seeds, and makes new life to poison the Earth with a plague of men, as once it was. But the Gun shoots death and purifies the Earth of the filth of Brutals. Go forth, and kill! Zardoz has spoken!"
— Zardoz

Imagine having to explain what a penis is to your child :/

Of course, if the child doesn't already understand there's no real reason to. I guess some people insist on being offended.

Oh, the navy... of course it's a penis.
Airforce or others would've drawn female body parts. biggrin

The same people complaining about their kids seeing a contrail penis let their kids listen to top 40 music and watch modern sitcoms. Can’t see something that I bet wouldn’t have 3/4 of us saying “oh, look! A cocknballs in the sky!” I know I wouldn’t have seen that if I hadn’t been told what it was first.

Reminds of the scene in Austin Powers

Johnson: [Noticing Dr. Evil's spaceship on radar] Colonel, you better have a look at this radar.
Colonel: What is it, son?
Johnson: I don't know, sir, but it looks like a giant--
Jet Pilot: Dick.
Dick: Yeah?
Jet Pilot: Take a look out of starboard.
Dick: Oh my God, it looks like a huge--
Bird-Watching Woman: Pecker.
Bird-Watching Man: [raising binoculars] Ooh, Where?
Bird-Watching Woman: Wait, that's not a woodpecker, it looks like someone's--
Army Sergeant: Privates! We have reports of an unidentified flying object. It has a long, smooth shaft, complete with--
Baseball Umpire: Two balls.
[looking up from game]
Baseball Umpire: What is that. It looks just like an enormous--
Chinese Teacher: Wang, pay attention!
Wang: I was distracted by that giant flying--
Musician: Willie.
Willie Nelson: Yeah?
Musician: What's that?
Willie Nelson: [squints] Well, that looks like a giant--
Colonel: Johnson?!
Johnson: Yes, sir?
Colonel: Get on the horn to British Intelligence and let them know about this.

No, now go away or I shall taunt you a second time!

I kinda get what Coot is saying...

I'm a bit put off when we're walking the LSU campus before a football game, the common occurrence of trashy looking people (usually middle-class+ whites, judging by their new and expensive SUVs) blasting obscene rap in their tailgating area (including plenty of "f" bombs and "mutha fu*ka's"). Having never been a parent, it's not like the first thing that pops into my head is that there's kids around hearing this crap. It's more like, I wish we had standards in public areas, and I for one wouldn't mind such standards being enforced. But they shouldn't have to be if people just had a little respect for themselves and especially for the people around them. God I hate this ghetto culture cancer that's taking over!

I don’t want to hear ANY music that loud. If I wanted to listen to music I’d listen to MY stereo.

Tailgaters love to blast their tunes, either Country or Rap (usually the later). I always bring my own headphones or ear buds.

But I agree with you, I'd rather not hear *any* of it although I'd never complain with a reasonable volume and non-offensive lyrics, even if I don't like the genre.

Not explicitly, but to prove a point: this "moral golden age" didn't exist. It never did.

But if we're gonna go there, then let's start pulling some iconoclasm, since after all, this kind of stuff perverts God's world and shouldn't exist:

I cringe at some people out there trying to make a big deal over explaining this to little Timmy and little Tammy. Seriously? Do none of you have any experience with the things children say and do?

I can assure you that by the time I was in 3rd grade I was drawing explicit pics on the bathroom stalls at school.
