Recently found out about this title and it does look interesting. It does look very WIP, and after browsing their Steam page it looks like progress is being made. But for those that have been following this sim, how has progress been so far? Does it seem like progress is moving at a sensible pace and a final release possible in a year or so? Or does it look like another title that may get stuck in early access?

Compared to some other EA games I have it is moving along OK but not at a rapid pace. Still waiting for a dynamic campaign system to be added and think that is a long way off. Next up is a mission editor. Highly doubt this would be finished in a year, maybe 2 years.

Yes, the progress is slow but it moves forward. We still don't have fully working single missions yet not to mention the dynamic campaign. The dev (yeah, the team is small) is currently adding full day-night cycle and is finally working on single missions. But yeah - in 2 years we might see the finished product. Here's the game after the latest update:

Updates have been slow,I honestly thought it was abandoned but with such a small dev team,it's understandable.

I should have been all over this game,I love the Harrier but my general loss of interest in flight sims have taken a toll. I'll keep an eye on it but as a hardened Brit I want to fly over Port Stanley and bomb the Argies smile

That looks good but geez...there is still no dynamic campaign even though it's in the description of the game. Sounds like they're not even close to getting it done either. Guess I will check back in a couple years.

Yeah. I would like to have a reason to buy it, even if only in a semi-finished state, but there needs to be some sort of single-player experience (beyond free-flight) to be worth the money.

I am glad to hear it is still moving forward, though.

I bought it simply because it supports my Oculus Rift. Fun to fly, though I've not fired it up recently. Need to get the latest patch and see if there is any noticeable improvements.

For example:

"Pilot movement is directly translated from your own - in this case: Track IR!"

While cool, is this feature really important for this sim? IMO, it's a clear NO! Even because when I (and most other simmers I believe) play these games/sims I do it on the first view perspective, this something like 99.99% of my playing time or I should only see the external pilot model something like 0.01% of my playing time.

Resuming, wouldn't the time spend to develop this "otherwise cool" feature of the pilot model mimicking the Track IR/VR movement better be spent on developing other much more important features such as the single player campaign??

This kinda reminds me when someone was developing a WWII Night Bomber flight sim (modeling British Bomber Command Bombers) in the past but at one point the developer decided to focus on ocean waves, LOL! As if ocean waves were anywhere important for a combat flight sim which above all, focus on night time action/combat at high altitudes.

IMO, it's this sort of "lack of focus" that IMO ends up killing the development of these games/sims - I would say this because time and money is always very limited for the development of such games/sims and as such the development time should be much better spend (and as such better managed) and this IMO can only be done by focusing on the most important features first (single player campaign, multiplayer, vital avionics and weapons functionalities, etc...) and only later after the first "final version" being released then if the developer wishes focus on the "extra cosmetics" such as the model pilot mimicking the Track IR/VR movement, etc...
Well, my 2 cents anyway...

Some good points there ricnunes.

The head movement translation to game world was there from the start (since it appeared on Early Access at least), and besides it looks cool it could have good use in multiplayer for example. Interestingly every detail you see in the cockpit can be seen from outside - from panel lighting state to what individual instruments and displays are showing! Every other sim uses different model for external and internal view, here from what I can tell it's the same one. So this is basically a byproduct of core feature of the game engine implemented here. And yeah, I know MP is nowhere near completion either, but I guess that what you get when the game is done basically by one man.

I'm trying to be optimistic and give it some time. Too many promising projects have died already (Combat Helo, Seven-G), and I hope this will eventually succeed. I want to have some alternative to DCS World besides Falcon BMS.

As you can see everyone makes the same mistakes.
flexman in combat helo just the same -month made some configuration for the joystick, or app transferring the game map to the smartphone.Completely useless and senseless things.I do not even mention the test map because it was already paranoid.

I've been interested in this project since it's beginning, but I just can't hit the buy button. I'm not comfortable with early access games. It's coming along really nicely, though.

I've owned it since June 2016 but I'm not in a position to tell you what it's like as I rarely play it. Probably haven't launched it for well over 12 months, maybe longer.

Updates seem to be few and far between but I understand it's a small dev team.

I like the AV-8B,would prefer a Harrier as a Brit but I've given up all hope of ever seeing Jet Thunder. I recently purchased the DCS AV-8B module, just need to put aside the time to learn it.

Maybe Damson can give us an update,he seems to fly everything smile

Its frustrating,

Bought this on steam IIRC like 5 years ago. Many systems still do not work, the enemy AI is pretty nonexistant. The promised dynamic campaign ( the main reason many of us bought into this) is not implemented at all and I will be surprised if it ever is anytime soon. Many of the cockpit systems are not working yet although some progress has been made on that this year. Many of the land based runways in some areas are uneven and provide for a very bumpy landing. Lastly we may get a very small update every 4-6 months so there are long stretches of silence. The team really should hire more people, heck given the love shown by many modders out there that mod scores of other sims, both old and new, they could probably find many willing to help out on this project.

The flight model iis above adequate, as are the graphics. I just wish we had the campaign because right now all you can do is fly and look around for the most part as there is no real war or objectives.
