Who is getting this? The reviews so far are not the most glowing.

Regret pre-ordering the limited edition for £80.

I'll get it when it is on a very good sale. I didn't buy the first Battlefront until it was on sale for 5 bucks on Origin. smile

I have plenty of games right now that keep me busy so I'm in no rush to buy a new game on release.

I completely skipped the first one; and after watching streams and gameplay videos of SWBF2, I'll prob do the same. Nothing looks innovative or "different", it really looks like they took CoD and put a SW skin on it. Every video I've watched has just been running around in circles; no teamwork or incentive to play as a team. That, plus the lootboxes = not worth $60+ for me

If the first is any indication, this will also be dead on PC in the first 6 months after release

EA has been striking out a lot lately. Both SW: Battlefront I and Mass Effect Andromeda were big commercial disappointments.

I've heard good things about it in general. No season pass crap, but there are routes to pay and get a little ahead as far as unlocking heroes or something. Not pay to win, but casual players may never see everything unlocked.
SP looks really good, but supposedly only 5-8 hours average game time. Even if its high quality, that's disappointing.

I'm torn. Looks good, but pricey. If you wait, like I did the last one, you're so far behind the curve learning the maps that you’re extremely outclassed. Plus, for a basically MP game, the audience thins out so you aren’t well matched with your skill level. On BF1, there were game types I never got to try because, by then, no one played them. Too small an audience.

I was not planning to buy it to begin with. I figured EA was going to F'k it up like they did the first one. This time it is even worth. It is a loot box extravaganza. It was funny watching reddit yesterday. A post by the EA Community Team gained more downvotes than any other post ever on reddit.

https://www.reddit.com/r/StarWarsBa..._i_paid_80_to_have_vader_locked/dppum98/

There was also a mass of refunds by people who dont want the loot boxes. It's kind of a slap in the face of customers. The stuff is hidden behind a 40+ hour paywall. Either you pay (and 100 dollars wasnt enough to unlock ONE hero, they estimate 280ish per hero) or you spend 40 hours. Winning or doing well has nothing to do with it. it is stuck on a timer so its 40+ hours with no way to shorten it (per hero). EA is so out of touch which is sad because it looks like it COULD have been a good game.

And today EA removed their refund button from their website. So now if you want to refund your preorder you have to call them and wait on hold for an hour.

Here is another interesting popup. If you play arcade mode too much the game restricts you to having to wait 4 hours to earn more credits after a few wins. Then if you wait 4 hours and win again it restricts you to 24hrs for the next win. The whole thing is design to frustrate you into buying credits to purchase loot boxes.

I'll have to dig up the link but there was an excellent article a couple of weeks ago that essentially said that EA has dumped the traditional RPG and other games where you play through once and you are done. They are concentrating on games that will have a constant revenue stream.

What a waste. The original 2 games were so much fun.

I'm glad I no longer game like I used to. I certainly wouldn't buy anything that had loot boxes in it.

If anyone follows The Jimquisition on YT, you will be familiar with his stance on loot boxes. Jim is NOT SAFE FOR WORK,be warned.

I picked up the first one when it came down to €5, will do the same with this.
They really are pushing the constant revenue stream, pay to get ahead. I'll tell them what I think by not buying the product until it's super cheap, and not paying for any lootboxes.

From a post I made elsewhere:

I wouldn't even buy it for ten bucks, or free for that matter.

Buying an EA game is akin to going to Brewsters and asking for chocolate ice cream--the attendant smiles, politely drops trou, and craps soft-serve onto your waffle cone. The resultant defecacy is brown, and might even contain nuts, but scrumptious it is not.

So if you like eating diarrhea then by all means, buy EA, and lap up all the microtransactions, locked maps and hidden fees they shovel you in buckets full of crap packaged as a "full" game... Fully loaded ass is more like it.

The game looks so pretty, just a shame that LA sold out to letting EA make the game.

pre-ordered it in June for 45$
if I had it full price I would've cancel it

gameplay wise, the game is fun IMO
its a big step-up compared to Battlefront 2015

EA just stated today that they stopped selling crystals and that progression now is no longer pay2win
We'll see.....

Actually, LA sold out to Disney and then Disney let EA make the game. smile

With the advent of the loot crate in the EA games, the Belgian government has started an investigation into EA and Battlefront II in particular as they are looking at classifying the game as gambling which would then open EA up to much higher tax level here plus registering and licencing costs for the game and company.

Does that go against the ethos of Disney if the Belgian govt. up hold it to be gambling?

Quote
In Belgium, companies require a license to provide gambling. In Belgium, a game of chance is classed as gambling. The Chancellor Commission’s director, Peter Naessens, has stated that the fact that when an item that can directly improve your game is included in these random boxes, it isn’t possible without a license from the authority.
As such, the simple fact that star cards (read: loot boxes) in Star Wars Battlefront II offer a chance for particular items that directly improve gameplay could very easily place them in that category.
