Going back 200 albums, I guess you'll always have some 60's - 80's Classic Rock in there.
Looking at the current top 40 albums on that link, I only recognize the names:
#8 Darius Rucker (wife listens to Country and likes him, which is how I learned that he's the singer from Hootie and the Blowfish and I've always liked "Cracked Rear View").
#17 Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers (their Greatest Hits, no surprise with his recent passing).
...and that's it, those are the only artists I've heard of in the top 40 on that listing. #41 is George Michael (again, recent passing) but then I have to go to #72 Taylor Swift before I recognize another name, and that's only because she's been mentioned on this board.
++++++++++
If you go back 30 years or so, I bet most people in multiple generations would know of the artists/albums/songs because it was such a different time when all we had was FM radio. Same with TV, when all we had were 4 stations (3 network and 1 public broadcasting), everyone was at least familiar with the current programs if just by such limited selection.
I wonder how many kids coming of age today don't recognize many of those top artists? Seems to me they listen to more underground stuff, at least the ones who's musical tastes would likely have jived with mine if I were young today. So I don't think it's so much an age thing (us old farts not knowing the current top 40) as it is a difference in tastes, with many of the younger generation also shunning what's considered popular on a Billboard listing.

Early era Peter Gabriel Genesis or later mainstream era Genesis with Phil Collins as the lead singer?

Phil Collins. I've never listened to any Peter Gabriel Genesis, even though his solo "So" is one of my favorite albums.
I have only a couple of Genesis albums, "Genesis" and "Invisible Touch", as well as the hits from "We Can't Dance" plus a bunch of Phil Collins singles.
Also didn't know they had so many albums...
From Genesis to Revelation (1969) Trespass (1970) Nursery Cryme (1971) Foxtrot (1972) Selling England by the Pound (1973) The Lamb Lies Down on Broadway (1974) A Trick of the Tail (1976) Wind & Wuthering (1976) ...And Then There Were Three... (1978) Duke (1980) Abacab (1981) Genesis (1983) Invisible Touch (1986) We Can't Dance (1991) Calling All Stations (1997)
...other than you mentioning the Peter Gabriel era. I really need to give them a listen.

Their true “progressive” era ended after Gabriel left the group which was after the “Lamb Lies Down on Broadway” album.
Don’t bother with “Calling All Stations”, It was made after Phil left the band and it’s very much a forgettable album IMHO.

That’s one of my top concept/story albums of all time. It’s certainly not for everyone since the album is pretty eccentric and weird.

Hey, we all have at least one guilty pleasure.

A paraphrasing of a selection from "Colony of the Slippermen:" A dude (Rael) comes across a group of "Slubberdegullions" The males have their genitals cut off and wear them in a tube around their neck. Rael has his cut off, too. Then a giant blackbird comes and steals Rael's ding dong and he tries to catch up to it again. And so on.
I don't care what drugs Peter Gabriel was on, it just doesn't get any better. And no, I am not being facetious.
Kenny Chesney Kelly Clarkson Ed Sheeran Imagine Dragons Pink WEEZER! Theory of a Dead Man! Tom Petty The Piano Guys (followed on YouTube) The Weeknd Halsey Red Bruno Mars
I've heard of Drake and Kendrick Lamar, but not sure if I know any songs.
...but they weren't on the chart when PM first posted, it's changed.
EDIT: Looks like Tom Petty has dropped from #17 to #26, Darius Rucker from #6 to #46.

Weezer had some good hits in the 90’s but they pretty much disappeared for the most part about 10 years ago.
