".kkrieger (from Krieger, German for warrior) is a first-person shooter video game created by German demogroup .theprodukkt (a former subdivision of Farbrausch), which won first place in the 96k game competition at Breakpoint in April 2004. The game remains a beta version as of 2017."
I'm just amazed at how far you can take procedural generation (even the music), looks like an entire level is included (I stopped playing after clearing out several rooms) with *incredible* graphics for its size!
To put the game's install size into perspective, you can fit 15 installs on a single 3.5" 1.44MB floppy disk! And I know it's not pulling anything from online because none of my desktops have online capability.
The only problem was that it didn't work on my Win7 laptop, only on my XP desktops (also suppose to run on Win9x). Also, it does take a little while to load (rather, to generate itself) but no more than about a minute on my 2005 XP PC.
EDIT: Forgot to mention, the game ran very smoothly.

The rusty wire that holds the cork that keeps the anger in Gives way and suddenly it’s day again The sun is in the east Even though the day is done Two suns in the sunset, hmph Could be the human race is run
Source can be found here for anyone interested (Assembly and C++)...

Just to reiterate, the YouTube video above is a play-through of that super-tiny install, nothing extra was added. Generation must take place completely on initial loading of the game because it runs smoothly throughout, unlike some procedural generated games I've tried (i.e. A New Zero, voxel flight sim).

Going to add one more thing that *truly* puts this all into perspective!
This 1280x720 JPG screenshot of the game is ~380kb...
That's almost 4X larger than the game itself!
Unfreaking believable!

Very cool MarkG thanks for sharing. Is the music procedural too? Seems I saw a game on Steam Greenlight awhile back that said it procedurally generated the music being played which I thought was really fascinating and I had not heard of such a thing before. Its amazing how good that looks, lighting and shadows and all for such a small package? Did they create their own engine too or just take something pre-existing and do their magic coding? I watched part of the playthrough and the game seems to tap into that really cool, ethereal "feel" that few games grab a hold of to make you feel like you've really stepped into a different world. At the time FarCry came out and it just makes me wonder what kind of game could be made, what could be possible, by this group of apparently very talented people if given the means.
