Very good day at RDU airport! P-51, B-24, B-25, and a B-17.

Heard a Mustang fire up! Waited in line for over an hour to walk thru a B-17 (so did the wife!)
Sorry for the sub-par pics, but the subjects are worth it.

BTW, can't imagine making a run in the B-17. So small and narrow inside. Brave folks they were.

Nice pics! I was always amazed at how small the B-17 was. I've been up on that B-24 three times, and it's not bad in the waist section, but just about anywhere else is tight too.

Thanks Ken. It was cool to see so many elderly there, and the expression on their faces when they got up close.
I got a lot out of being there. They got a lot more.

it is so cool to watch the men who once flew or worked on these same planes walk up to them.

Yep, I went up on that B-24 a while ago and one of the pilots from WWII was there looking at it:

My Dad worked on B-24s in Italy during WWII, so of course I had a lot of opportunity to talk with him about them.
