So, as I dust of my cobwebs, I start looking for stuff in my basement from a long long time ago.....which feels like a galaxy far far away....

I found these bags. I am sure they are for the Cougar HOTAS but are they the old ones I took out or the new ones.

i am thinking new because the wire on the pots in the pic are clean cut and I don't remember doing that. Unfortunately, one piece is broke, but which piece is it.

If anyone has this hardware, what is it and is it useful to me?

Those are the old pot metal gimbals (which is why you have one broken). You probably have a uber modded cougar or similar.

I'd hang on to those (because I'm a pack rat) cuz you never know...

Yeah, that's the stuff left over after a gimbal mod as Jason said. While there is a chance you might find some of it useful down the road, I doubt you ever will. The wrench is handy and springs are always useful, even if not with the stick.

your are right schnidrman, DBond, those springs and the wrench are from the Uber (2) mod. The wrench is for the halls and the springs are extra. I have the same stuff here right now.

If I recall correctly, Ian always sent extra springs for down the road, but I haven't needed mine yet. I'm keeping them though for, you know, down the road.

Nacman, the pots are of the original X Y pots for the flight stick. They're possibly still good so keep them. If you can hit it with a shot of deoxit fader for good long-term storage.

Seeing your thread made me realize I haven't done that, so I interrupted my typing to go do it. Glad I checked in today.

It's easy to open the bottom (flight stick) and just take a look if you want to confirm that you got the Uber installed.. Nothing inside will be loose from taking the bottom plate off.

I agree with DBond that the original gimbals stuff is unlikely to be needed.

good to know. So as I stated in another thread I have two complete sets of cougar HOTAS. while working on the calibration issue, i switched out the modded cougar for the stock one. Tonight the unmodded stick pot metal gimbal broke. Has anyone done the force controlled mod (fcc)? Since I have a spare cougar, and I think I am building a pit, should I order one? can they still be ordered? Feedback appreciated.

If you are building a pit, then I would for sure. Here are the two most popular and maybe the only versions on the market for a Cougar.

I'm leaning for the FCC3 mainly because it looks like a more simple conversion. Just haven't pulled the trigger yet.

Edit: I'm betting you broke the same part as in the picture above.

Here is what broke. I pulled the trigger, pun intended on the FCC3 after reading comparison reviews. I also decided to buy as “insurance” the converter for the TQS and the Stick to make them fully USB and DX compatible. I won’t necessarily convert either to these types, but should some future iteration of windows cause issues, I will have a USB direct connect Cougar TQS.

Secondly, as suggested, I popped the bottom of my Cougar stick, to reveal the UBER NXT mod. Again, it was so long ago I forgot that I did it. Are those HALL sensors in it too? I guess so from the pics I have seen.

Yeah, I think Uber NXT will only work with Halls.

You really dove in at the deep end Nacman thumbsup

This next pic and reasoning should make you laugh.

After I took the previous pics, I said to myself, "Damn that bling ring at the base looks ugly and dull." So here is the one going back on the UBER modded stick after I put some jeweler polish and bench grinder with a cotton wheel to it. Question is, will the bling factor help me fly any better? I doubt it but i will feel better as I go down in flames looking at my stick!!!! LOL...

Well, there's no doubt that the better it looks, the better it flies.
