There doesn't seem to be much activity any more. I stop in every once in a while. I think that the various protectors and purists accomplished the job. There are no longer any signs of discontent disturbing the purity of well regulated tranquility.

Hello,

sad to see that nothing happens here anymore. I hate to see good combat sims dying. I also wanted to fly EAW with the mods I collected over the years somewhere in future but have so much other things to complete before.

Maybe some guys could start to get it reborne again. We do so for EECH-Allmods at the moment. There aren't many good sims out there which are still active and it seems that this whole genre is dying. So all we could do is take care of the good old stuff we still have.

I still get 50 to 150 hits or more a day on my EAW Help Site, and get questions once in awhile. Mostly about controlers, the rest of the introduction stuff is well documented now. (although not complete yet).

Well Guys.

If the non stop ratta tatter tat, of EXE's, and re hashed 3dz's have finally stopped, maybe we can take back control of EAW?

Anyone still interested, or call it a day?

Just lurking at this time Col. Really don't have much to say about things here. In other words "...All quiet on the Western Front...".

Yes its very quiet here now. Seems Jel and the onliner group has moved on to post elsewhere?

I've pretty much retired from any active EAW work other than that related to running the game on Linux and posts on my website.

I make a few posts on SimHQ usually in the PC software forum and elsewhere
I have zero interest in any further EAW controversy so I really don't post here anymore other than ocassion news in the "Still running in 2015" sticky thread as you may have noticed.

My current interests are exploring Linux and am slowly looking into possibilties of playing EAW and other games while using a "Live" Linux running from a usb / DVD / CD disk.

You may have also seen my post related to Atari at Atari announces AtariBox console.
If Atari makes a Linux based box there is no reason why it could not run EAW.
That said it is doubtful they would bother.

However that news (about how Chenais bought Atari out of bancruptcy here: Atari CEO confirms the company is working on a new game console
Quote
..
Chesnais said that Atari’s revival is well under way. Atari filed for bankruptcy protection in 2013, but Chesnais bought it and pledged to make it great again. The company is now profitable, and it is engaged in making mobile games. It is licensing its brands more widely, such as licensing its Atari name for the upcoming Blade Runner 2049 movie...

Raises issues of whether Atari may actually still hold the rights to EAW, and wheteher it may have any interest in the title.
If so, any work I do on the Linux related use of EAW increase the posssiblity the game will have extended longevity.
Well, at least to enthusiasts if not the company.
I base that on the assumption that IMHO its very unlikely Atari would try to distribute the game for its box. But likely that the AtariBox in general will have use outside of 'official' media, downloads, etc.
Since typically any box that can run Linux eventually has various Linux Distibutions / Modifications / Hacks made for it by the Linux enthusiasts for use of those devices.
Some of these even outlast the software that the box came with and extending the usefulness of the entire platform for years.

So to me its very reasssuring that even if only a few people play EAW, its likely this game will be playable for the forseeable future.
Also there is Steam and Mobile platforms and eventually it could be used there.

btw; The statistics for my site; 14,007 views within about a year.
My unscientific analysis after looking at the stats over the year is that most of these are visitors probably from neocities (since my site rates rather high for the tags like 'games', 'Linux'. And most of the rest from internet / google etc.
Many come for Linux related links I think.

And then lastly some EAW interested people.

I got a few bursts of visitors at times like after the post of my 1.28e download, etc. seem to indicate AFAIK that there may be around 200 or so overall people that came around. Likely from the SimHQ.

Then daily and weekly stats seem to indicated there is maybe 10-12 frequent weekly visitors and about 20 - 30 peoplel overall who have monthly returning interest in EAW.

This more or less exactly matches my conclusions about the stats for EAW interest in general and visitors at this forum. At least before the recent er... slump.

To sum up, fyi:
(and its simply IMHO and by observation of both the forums posts activities and all my websites (3 or 4?) over the last 12-15 years)
- about 10 - 12 or less active members
- About 20 odd to 30ish including returning EAWers overall per year.
- 200 - 300 people worldwide maybe have reocccuring interest in EAW over the years. At least enough to return more than once within a year.

Interesting stuff guys.

So they have messed up the game so badly, that nothing runs without loads of work, and now disappeared.

This is exactly what I foresaw nearly 2 years ago, and why I left in disgust at being ignored by those 2.

Sadly, I have Parkinsons,, which stop me typing normally, and has robbed me of my Right hand.

We call this "None so blind as he who will not see".

To quote:

1 - "If the non stop ratta tatter tat, of EXE's, and re hashed 3dz's have finally stopped, maybe we can take back control of EAW?"

2 - "So they have messed up the game so badly, that nothing runs without loads of work, and now disappeared. This is exactly what I foresaw nearly 2 years ago, and why I left in disgust at being ignored by those 2."

And this is why we've imposed our own little boycott.

We became exhausted defending our work.

To set the record straight ONE......MORE......TIME.

1.6 is a slick installation for users. There's nothing to be afraid of, unless you're of the group of naysayers whose egos keep them from acknowledging they were spectacularly wrong.

PS - Back in the real world, I'm really, truly sorry about your Parkinson's diagnoses. My wife's previous husband died from the ravages of that damn disease. It will take a fair bit of courage to face the inevitable decline.

Heck, even paranoids have enemies.

I don't visit this forum much these days, but really, do we need to go through this all over again.
I've said it before, so once again, put personal differences aside on the forum. If not admin will step in and users could be banned.

Keep it civil and if you can't say anything constructive, don't say anything.
