Hi, I did a search and only found one other post about EDTracker.

Wondering if anyone is using EDTracker instead of TrackIR?

http://www.edtracker.co.uk/

As EDTracker is not an infra-red tracker, ambient light does not interfere with with it.
This was a problem at Wright-Patterson WW1 Rendezvous in 2016 - looking for an alternative for 2018.

I see that EDTracker is 3DOF not 6DOF like TrackIR - wondering how much impact that has when flying WOFF.

Thanks for any input.

It looks interesting Stache, but not a lot of info on how it hooks up to the system. Price looks expensive for the pro edition and it is currently not available due to stock shortage or something like that.

Best Regards

Actually it is half the price of TrackIR (not counting shipping)- so a lot less expensive.
Supposed to be back in stock in mid May.
Connects to computer with a USB Cable.

Seems to get a fair amount of usage in DCS - IL2 CLOD.

Have also been looking at this - to use in conjunction with TrackIR but use active IR instead of passive reflectors.

How does it track your head? Don't you have to wear it somehow?

Yes, it is a motion sensor (yaw, pitch, roll) - you attach it to a hat or headset.
route the cable as appropriate back to the computer.
But it does not need direct line of sight as there is no camera involved like TrackIR.

I read something about a centering button that was removed in favour of a software centering solution. I hope it can be keyboard assigned and work in WOFF. I would like to try it.

Update:

So I have purchased EdTracker.
I purchased a wireless version.

Initial results look promising - it does work. winkngrin
I've only done a couple QC flights.
Still need to test and dial it in more.
Still need to play with pseudo 6DOF.

Yes, there is a centering button.
I am using with the OpenTrack software as described here.

http://www.edtracker.co.uk/10-game-guides/26-edtracker-pro-opentrack

Will update again in a couple weeks.

Bit more time with EDTracker.

Here is a video I did while using EDTracker.
The pseudo 6DOF is working - Can peak on either side of the cowl, when looking down into cockpit it zooms in a bit on the gauges.
I am using opentrack as suggested by the manufacturer and other sources.

So far I am liking this.
I like the freedom of movement I have.
When using TrackIR I was frequently moving outside the range of the camera, even after multiple positions of it.
Surprisingly still see a blue triangle from time to time.

It looks to serve all the functions needed and is responsive.
I have the wireless version and the battery seems to be lasting good.
Not being susceptible to ambient lighting, it should work good at Dayton next year.

Note I turned off my nvidia surround and dropped the resolution down to 1920x1080 for this video.
Its a long mostly boring video, just a test flight.

Hi Stache, it looks good. Nice and smooth motion until you get close to the airfield and the some stuttering starts.

Cool beans, I saw a few threads on DiY versions of a similar setup back as I first started looking into head tracking. I wonder if any of those guys are behind it. I think that is the wave of the future for non 3D headset tracking...

Stuttering is not normal, I too was surprised when it happened.
I have not recorded in a while so was not optimized. Plus screwing with the resolution might have affected something.
I will report if stuttering returns under under normal conditions.
