Hi Guys,

I'm a newbie here but I have to say that some of you guys are masters at building and CAD work.

Enjoy, and let me know what you think.

Also, let me know if you can't read the dimensions. I tried to make them large enough to read, but I'm happy to provide these to anyone that needs them.

Excellent work Stang, glad to hear the dimensioned pics were of help. If any other measurements or areas are still ambiguous, I'd be happy to take more measurements. Your contributions to the sim community are much appreciated, I've seen your threads on EagleD forums too (I'm Thadiun Okona there) and the work impeccable and posts filled with great reference material.

453Raafspitty,

Your K-14 Gunsight looks Fantastic.

I am working on the drawings for that now and its a bear.

Check my P-51 Plans thread over the next week or two, as I may get it completed.

Blue Skys my friend.

These drawings just like the rest of your drawing for the P-51 are awesome. What I'm trying to figure out is the gimbals and exactly how it all works in movement as I'm trying to replicate the stick for my pit. Haven't been able to locate any pics or videos of how it all works. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated!

The bottom of the control unit is called a mixer unit as it mixes aileron roll and elevator control..This ones a model but gives a bit of idea.

Thanks.....Im leaning towards something like the pic that can be constructed (at least IMHO) with my current skills. Ive collected a number of pics of the real thing but havent worked its motion out in my mind just yet, thats why I was asking if anyone knew of some pics or video that shows how it moves.

Is simple :

BTW- The drawing that you attached is from Bf109, work in similar way that P-51, but in a more compact assembly, and the drawing don't show the bearing (pivot) for aileron tork tube.

Okay....I guessing by the notations on the pic that an outer torque tube rotates while the inner torque tube slides fore and aft...or is there just a single torque tube moving fore and aft and rotating by a mixing effect? I don't believe this is the only gimbal assembly used in a P-51, I have in my files somewhere a picture of a gimbal and torque tube assembly that was much more compact and used a U-joint configuration. I believe it was used in the later models. Where could I find drawings or pics of the gimbal assembly for the BF-109?

The outer tube is the torque tube for aileron cables

The inner tube is just a "push-rod" for elevator and rotates with the stick "fork" when aileron is commanded.

These are the pics of the different gimbal for the P-51....I believe they are from an "H" model or later designation...have to do some more research to be sure.

I worked out the 109 mixer unit but had geometry issues that would bind it up under operation.I think Gene got further along and got one 3D printed.Being mechanical accuracy has a big issue in its operation.Mock it up in wood and cardboard first to see what works.

I've actually updated the design a tiny bit to use better bearings on the fore/aft ends of the roll block. I'll get it printed up soon and post pics. (I couldn't find angled bearings small enough...)

They would be spherical bearings I would think.Spitfires use a similar bearing on Frame 9 for the rudder pedal slides..

This pictures look more from those "semi-replica" kits of P-51 than real one - look at that throttle quadrant, absence of that typical landing gear lever on left side...

Anyway is not possible see in the pictures how is the elevator cable/pushrod attachment.
