I have Stangs plans, got them when he first released them. They are awesome. Too bad he's disappeared, a lot of folks were looking forward to some of his other work.

Pretty nice grip. I have an old TM XFighter joystick that uses a B8 type grip that Im going to use for my stick. Yeah its not a true P51 grip but Im planning to fly other aircraft using the same pit so some generic stuff is in order. I have an old cougar set up and will probably cannibalize off of it for better switches if I dont have what I need to upgrade the older B8 grip. Just finished my prototype P51 throttle and awaiting some other parts to come in for it so I can finish and move on to the stick. Still toying with a few ideas as far as the gimbal setup and possibly experimenting with an EDTracker set up. Someone over on another forum built a sick using that and had good success with it.

Hi I'm new here.

Been wanting to make a custom joystick. Would like to build a P47 pit' but have two littlens and not enough room or money. So settled on making a custom ww2 style joystick. Would like to do floor mounted but it's just not going to happen currently.

Had a go from some other photos on here to make a cad model of the handle.

Its not quite right. But having a second go with Stang4Me's drawings, as well as picture reference.

If anyone has some good tips on doing the knurling in cad on a complex surface like that I'm all ears.

May have to make the knurl bigger to print well anyway. Will give the right effect though.

Not in CAD but you might try 3Dmax or Blender for the grip effect.

Had another go using Stang4Me's drawings.

Think this one came out better. May try to print. Have designed it as two halves to glue together as that would seem better to print out then in one go. Still fiddling with it though.

SO bee working on the design.

Printed one but it messed up. Doing another but looks like X axis belt is about to fail. So don't think that will finish.

New belt coming, so will have to wait a few days.

Working on the force sensor. Trying to do a printable one so anyone can make one.

Got handle printed and now just reworking trigger and sanding for painting.

Printing the loadcell and have reinforcing rod coming to be epoxied in. Can attach strain gauges then and test to see if they work independently without bleeding force from one axis to another.

Have loads of old weight indicators so can rig them up at way higher sensitivity to test the axis.

Got the loadcell printed the other day and the design has had to be reworked.

I'm not giving up on a printable one, but plastic is not ideal. The response was way to high. Over 100ma from the bridge on the strain gauges, which quickly broke as they are just not met to flex that much.

So going for a much sturdier and chunky design. And have done a lot of stress analysis in CAD as to how it will take the loads so they don't interfere.

Also have refined the handle and switched to black plastic as well as well as doing improvements to the printer.

So coming along.

Beginning to wonder the last time I actually flew in a sim rather that worked on the thing to play it with. lol. Not even started on the electronics yet. But come this far so not giving up.

If my 2 year old goes to bed ok each night that is. That's enough to make anyone give up at times.
