I, too, have retired recently, but fortunately my wife doesn't take me shopping. I'm having no trouble staying busy, but doing creative things is a stretch for me. I'm in the process of having a ship diorama built of the IJN Mogami, a ship that I've always felt had an interesting wartime history. In anticipation of that, I've made a valiant effort at writing a poem to place with the display. I'm not entirely pleased with it, especially with putting myself in the "I'm there" position. That seems pretentious, I guess.. Still, I'm offering it up here for general interest, suggestions, etc.

Thanks.
The guy building it lives in Greece (sometimes Britain). It will be months before it is done. The basic layout will be similar to this previous work of his:

The ship itself should look like this one:

Just out of interest, why the Mogami?

She slaughtered the Allied fleet in the Dutch East Indies in 1942. (Don't get me wrong, it was a war)

"You'll never take me alive" said he,
And his ghost may be heard if you pass by that billabong
"Who'll come a Waltzing Matilda with me?"

Simply because of the long series of notable events it was a part of: a torpedo spread that sank five of their own ships, the collision at Midway that collapsed her bow and led to the ship taking a battering, numerous bomb and rocket hits during later battles, and ultimately taking crippling blows at Layte that let to the ship being scuttled. I just think it would have been a hellish ship to have been assigned to (sympathizing as a onetime sailor myself).

PhotoBucket is not allowing 3rd party linking anymore unless you have the P500 account so the images are not showing. frown
