A couple of people have mentioned they are still playing Dead Space 1, and/or 2, in another forum. That got me to try reinstalling my Dead Space 1. I was not sure it would even work on my

WIN10/64 machine. Well, it installed and runs just great. Could not find my copy of Dead Space 2 so I got a used one through Amazon. Disks in pristine condition, as expected. Seemed to install OK,

but each time I try to run it i get a message that it has to perform a "release date check" before it can be run for the first time. Well, it fails the "release date check" every time and tells me to go to

Electronic Arts Support for assistance. Well, noone is answering the phone at EA. Does EA even still exist?

Anyone else have this "release date check" problem with Dead Space 2? Any suggestions? Since the older DS1 installed and runs just fine in WIN10/64 I should thing the newer game would have no problems at all.

Never heard of this "release date check" anywhere else.

Thanks!

It sounds like you don't use Steam. Steam has both Dead Space 1 and 2 so no silly inconvenient CD's to worry about. smile

I have 1 and 3, also on W10 . Got them from Origin, did have some issues with Dead Space 3 in the start up screen but I remember there was a work around.

Dunolde, I found this but don't know if it will work for you. Seems like it would though. Its on an EA forums with and EA Admin posting a fix to the same problem you're having apparently. It looks like a new executable file. I only have DS1&2 on Steam. I went ahead and downloaded the file and scanned it and it seems legitimate and like I said its posted and linked to by an EA Admin in EA forums.

Greetings everyone,

For those of you encountering a "Release Date Check Failed" error message when attempting to play, please follow the steps below:

If you are installing from the Origin Client, we have published a new build for you. Please uninstall and reinstall once more.
If you are using the DVDs to install, please download the linked file corresponding to your version of the game:
Dead Space 2 (World Wide Release)
Dead Space 2 (German Release)
Next copy this file from your downloads into your installation folder and replace the existing deadspace2.exe file.

If you are still encountering this exact issue afterwards, please create an Origin Error Report ID and post its ID as highlighted in red in the spoiler below.

BTW I'm really enjoying DS1 for the first time. Had it on D2D but couldn't really run it. Got it on Steam and with a few fixes it looks and play great. Controls take some getting used to. Now I just wish #3 was on Steam. I played a little of it on Xbox 360 but traded it in. But I do have #2 on Steam as well. I think I was gifted that by a SimHQer as well.

The great thing about Dead Space 3 is that you can play the story-driven campaign cooperatively with another player. You get all of the neat cut-scenes too!

Thanks Coot! yeah, I found that at EA also but it was of no help. Fortunately Amazon took back the preowned DVD version that I bought and I then bought it on Steam.

all is good now. Thanks again!

Glad you got a working copy Dunolde. I'm still plugging away through DS1. I really like the upgrade trees. Again, the Dead Space game engine and lighting is just great.

Yup, I remember having to do that as well. The Borderlands games also gave me the same issue.

Vienna, 2nd rock left.
I had that issue in DS1. Found the fix again:

1. Browse to your Documents and find the Electronic Arts\Dead Space folder.
2. Open the "joypad_example" text file. You might want to make a backup copy of this file in case the fix doesn't work for you.
3. Replace both "Z-Axis" and "Z-Rotation" (found at the bottom) with "Off". Save and close the file.
4. Rename the file to "joypad" and start the game.
