There are "port authorities" (JFK Port Authority, etc) but I'm not aware of an entity called the "U.S. Custom Authority" today and certainly the FBI would not refer to another Federal agency by the name, "U.S. Custom Authority", today

I read something interesting about that the other day. These scams oftentimes seem to be deliberately absurd. This way they weed out the people who are smart enough to probably wise up
somewere along the process. This way they get the dummies and the very naive ones, much better investment return.

True story ....
A few months ago I got a called from an Indian or Pakistani-sounding chap, who claimed to be from the Australian Tax Office. "Uh-huh" I thought .... so I decided to string him along a bit. He told me that we were behind on our tax payments, etc. I was polite to him but a real smartarse. Anyway after a couple of minutes he finished up and that was that. A good bit of a laugh I though.

And then less than five minutes later my accountant rang and told me that he'd just been contacted by the ATO and what was said was quite real.

Um .... ooops?
