I would definitely pay to see that in the theater!

To be honest, I really do like the first two JJ Abrams directed Trek films but the last one "Beyond" left much to be desired.

There are definitely some great TNG episodes. Some better than the movies.
My favorites are still Best of Both Worlds 1/2 followed by Picard going home to get centered again.

I'd like to see QT try a ST movie. Not sure he could handle keeping the language clean, but he would come up with some good character developing dialog. His take on a space battle would probably be pretty amazing.

I agree Raw,QT does do great characters and dialogue. Maybe for the average ST fan this would be too much. They need lots of whizz-bang/ridiculous plots and crappy Scottish accents. At least QT mostly uses native speakers.

There's no way Paramount would do an R rated Trek film and Tarantino making a PG-13 rated film totally defeats the purpose of using Tarantino in the first place

Considering the variety of movies and characters he's done, I have no doubt he could pull it off. Just needs to have a reason. Not all of his characters have been habitual f-bomb droppers.
How about Christoph Waltz as the new Shakespeare quoting Chang? Ving a Klingon? Make Lucy Liu a captain (Sulu?) with Uma her XO.

JJ coming back is no surprise. I'm sure Disney is tired of all the director drama it's had lately.

I just saw that Abrams is going to write AND direct... Sigh... get ready for another "mystery box," I guess.

“With ‘The Force Awakens,’ J.J. delivered everything we could have possibly hoped for, and I am so excited that he is coming back to close out this trilogy,” said Lucasfilm President Kathleen Kennedy in a statement.

She could have just been forthright and instead said "a 2 billion dollar box office return". biggrin

May very well end up skipping the rest of the new Star Wars franchise. I have come to realize I simply do not like JJ Abrams movies, period. He has no idea how to tell a story with believable plot and/or characters.

Abrams mostly play it safe and delivers summer popcorn movies.

Don't under estimate Rian Johnson though. He has written and directed some really excellent movies...like Looper for example. The Last Jedi may turn out to be the best of trilogy just like with Empire.

Force Awakens made 2 billion at the box office. JJ and Disney have zero motive to change the formula.
