Hi everyone,

This probably has been asked or discussed before but my last mission was a balloon busting.
I destroyed the balloon but at Mission ending I got the message that the balloon was not damaged in the attack.
When using Jara's Mission debriefing I noticed that the balloon was hit but no icon that it was destroyed.
Anyone got some suggestions or tips for Mission succes?
Greetings Dieter

its a roll of the dice really. Many have sworn "I shot it down" only to get home and be disapointed. Its just one of those quirks of the game

you can: ignore the mission, shoot down a second balloon if possible. Remember this though.. you will lose a great many wingmen in this mission, so I tend to ignore them

Herman I

In real life the balloon may actually have been hit by friendly ground fire.
I usually accept this as a possibility when WOFF denies the claim.

As Lederhosen has stated "it is often a roll of the dice"

To my own big surprise my claim got confirmed even without a witness present !
I now understand that i shouldnt bother to much with the negative mission outcome.

Thank you for your replies gentleman!

Hermani, I find that if you let your flight-members shoot down the balloon, there is a greater chance of the mission outcome being considered a success. Go figure.

Fullofit, you beat me to the punch. I have found that if you let your wingmen handle the balloon it is almost a certainty that it will be declared a success.

Thx for your suggestions Banjoman and Fullofit.
I'll probably fly top cover next Mission and let my wingman finish off the balloon.

Big tip on balloon mission, limit yourself to two passes. If you don't get it, leave the bugger be. Hanging around in all that archie is like being a postman delivering mail to the dog pound. Get in and out quick and watch your backside.

Remember... just like in 'The Blue Max' movie... even if you don't get the 'kill' you know you have served the Fatherland! Seriously, balloon attacks are very dangerous. I like to fly a few minutes ahead of my squad mates at a little higher altitude then loiter near the target. If any 'bad' guys show then I try to drag them away from the area and across the lines on a path near but not directly to where my guys will be arriving. If I'm lucky my guys will join in the fray on their return! If not I hope to land in friendly territory if I choose not to fight.

Every time I have a rejected claim, I can still hear "unconfirmed by Army means Unconfirmed...." "It's a cruel world Stachel..."

I like your strategy ARUP, I'll have to give it a go on my next balloon busting sortie!

I have probably found an error in code causing unconfirmed balloon kills.
See excerpt from "outcomes.xml" file:
Quote
balloonsDestroyedSummary="1;

Pls note, that instead of proper end quote after value 1, we get semicolon. WOFF can not parse properly an outcome data value "ballonsDestroyedSummary", because it expects value in quotes ("1") and instaed it gets ("1;).
Just my two cents. I will try to inform Pol about it via PM.
Thx to Hermani for his outcome logs and data files.

That's a really good find Jara, and thanks to Hermani as well. I shall now think of both of you as Sherlock and Dr. Watson biggrin
