I set up the swinging monitor again last night. Tough to do with only my left arm at full strength. smile

Took a few hours, but I've got YAME working. Lots easier than screwing around with Helios but tougher than MFDE. But worth it since it saves lots of FPS.

YAME is totally different from Helios; one has 99% nothing to with the other, the exception being the CPD.

I was referring to setting up all the lights and bindings, etc, in Helios. Especially turning eyebrow lights at angles and the TWP.

You could download a Helios profile and it does 99.99% of the work for you. I've mapped all the lights on my profile and only use YAME for the Caution Panel lights.

Helios is designed for touchscreens so if you're using regular screen, Helios doesn't really bring much to the table. However, with a touchscreen, Helios brings the entire range of cockpit switches/buttons/knobs to your fingertips. No need to touch mouse or keyboard once you're in the 3D pit.

Ice, maybe your memory is a bit short... but I had a BMS Helios profile before you did. wink Some of those TWP lights (MSL LAUNCH in particular) never did work quite right and/or took a lot of trial and error scripting. That said, if I ever hook the touchscreen up again, YAME would be doubly helpful.

I haven't had the touchscreen hooked up since before I got the Rift. INCREDIBLE sensation of flight, but as we all know, DCS has it's own set of limitations. I'll break from it for a while, at least until the Hornet is released.

Apologies, my bad smile I knew your name was familiar but got thrown off by your YAME-Helios statement.....

What exactly is wrong with MSL Launch? I've been having fun in the game with baiting SA-2s but I'm not exactly sure if I'm paying attention to the Helios light or the in-pit light at the time.... if you could tell me the issue, I'll watch out for it next time. Like I said, I've mapped all the lights that I can and the TWP is definitely one of them.

Just tested baiting some SAMs and both in-pit light and Helios LAUNCH light both lit up when I had a missile coming my way. The only difference is that the in-pit one was blinking but my Helios one wasn't.

Schnidrman has awakened me from my summer slumber and got me thinking about getting the flying gear back up and running. Who's around? Anyone want to get some hops in?

Guess it's time to strap the jet on again.

Well, see, all is right with the world.

Axe, my man, long time. How's things? Hope all is well with you and yours.

Earlier, in this thread, I mentioned my old wingman and regaled everyone with uh, tales of our adventures, or something like that., Well, Axe is that wingman. Great to hook up again. I definitely cannot say no now.

As I menioned on the BMS forum, this idea of yours is also something I have been doing, except limiting the squadrons I control. I tried playing squadron commander a few times, but the ineptitude of the ATO to well, do things my way drove me crazy, so I had to go back to full hands-on.

Give me a few days to get back in the saddle and we'll get this thing rolling.

Yeah man, it's good...

Funny that you've been flying the same style, wow. I took 2 years off and needed to get the rust off (still do) but also wanted to make it fun more like when I first did. So I thought I should keep it simple, watch some stuff blow up from up close.
I know you're the best campaign manager, so you may not like my limited involvement on this one. We can do one that you manage. It'll be just fine, believe me.
I have one ready to go day 1 as described though. Virgin campaign. 2 squads and an awacs and jstar to manage. Mostly short hops, always short if available. If you want to do it.
Just holler when ready. I'm in either way.

-Ice, i'll be game for 3 too.

Schnidrman is game too, so we can probably get a few guys.

I should clarify. The way I've been doing is to shut off ATO strategic strikes, but not only flying that type of mission. It was more to 'save' those targets for the humans. My eyes are old Nuclear Plants stand out a bit as long as the cooling towers are still standing lol. So I can't have the AI blasting it all first smile

We fly alot of what we call HARMCAP missions early on. Free-hunts sort of stuff with ARMs and slammers. Stooge about looking for SAM radars and inbound gomers.

HARMCAP's are awesome, until 4 of those 29's blink at the same time those SA-6 are evil in their blood.
Wish you guys best of luck campaign day 1 - give them hell!

(I expect timezone will keep me out of this but if you fly early some random sat- or sunday keep us eurotrash posted here smile )

Yeah Oden, but luckily there are no SA-6 in KTO. Some SATENS though, in Tiger Spirit anyway. I believe Axe's template is KTO Iron Fortress so the most diabolical SAM systems are absent.

Axe, I'm game for flying your campaign. Sounds great. I just won't be ready for probably a week or so. Are you set to be a good host? I can host as well, I have a fast box and connection. You are on version U3?
