Been playing Dungeons & Dragons since the red box Basic edition in the 1970s. Today I'm in a great 5th Edition (5e) game. Back in the day it was all "theater of mind" where the Dungeon Master (DM) described what you saw and the players just imagined it. These days our group plays with 28mm fantasy miniatures "minis" but usually on a hand drawn dry or wet erase battle map. No more! I just ordered several sets of Dwarven Forge 3D gaming tile sets - both Caverns & Sewers and got to play around and set up my first example of a dungeon. I love this stuff! High quality, looks great and helps capture the imagination of the moment without players constantly asking the DM about what the surroundings look like for the 3rd time. I have over 600 minis, so not surprisingly I haven't gotten them all painted yet. The pure white minis still need that done. The caverns and sewers are populated with totally random monsters just for looks in these pics. They are not CR rated encounters for those who know what that means. The tables are 6' long to help put it in perspective of scale.

Hard to get the feel of depth without video, so here's a quick tour of this particular build - but understand that all of the pieces are modular, so you can build anything.

Cool stuff! I have the good fortune to be living near Lake Geneva, WI where Gary Gygax lived for much of his life. I have run into two folks I can think of who claim they were there and involved back when things were getting started....my older brother-in-law is also a huge D&D guy...I've only explored it on the periphery, but I've always enjoyed it.

Regards,

Jeff

All those to hit charts and stuff are gone in 5e! Roll the d20, add the appropriate modifier and if the total is equal to or greater than the Armor Class (AC) or Difficulty Challenge (DC) of the thing you are trying to do, you succeed. If it's lower, you fail. Fast, furious and fun. smile

Red Wizard shot the potion! Those look great! But they don't seem to answer the real question, which is: is it Thack-Oh, or Thay-Co?

The older I get, the more I realize I don't need to be Han, Luke or Leia. I'm just happy to be rebel scum...

It is neither since thank God they stopped using that a few editions ago. Lol

That set looks superb Hellshade, we used to just imagine as you say. I remember my partner building up a fantastic character, could change shape and get through all sorts of tight squeezes, only to press a button and the whole dungeon ceiling came down on her and killed her flat wink
We forgot to "look up" and ask the DM what the ceiling looked like.

Another was using rope to climb down and as we "forgot" to put something under the rope where it bent over the rocks it chafed and dropped the characters down a cliff what fun biggrin.
