It certainly makes a visit to Devil's Tower a bit more ... intense.
Hmmm, that is a vacation stop I must plan in to my bucket list. Been there, done that got the T-shirt.

By the way, part of the magic attraction for me is because I remember seeing the movie trailers on TV when it was released and wanted to see it so badly but my parents were not at all into going to the movies (and taking the kids). So I missed out on movies like Star Wars and Close Encounters. When I finally got to see Close Encounters it was on VHS at my next door neighbor's house in 1982. Even on a crappy little color TV it managed to totally pull me in.
LOL! Just like me growing up! Missed StarWars but knew the story from comic books at school, missed Close Encounters, missed Alien, missed but desperately wanted to see Blade Runner... EmpireSB saw in the theatres and was blown away by just how relentless imposing and evil Vader was in it...and the snowspeeders, what a rush! Then parents divorced, and Dad took us to see Raiders of the Lost Ark, and ST2 Wrath of Khan...awesome! Even the divorce was good, as they were horrific together...but that's another story.

Isn't Yellowstone in WY? I think there's more to see there than Devil's Tower, which is just a mountain sitting there.

An interesting factoid about this movie is that Spielberg had the film editing done to fit the music.
The issue is not p*ssy. The issue is monkey.

This is purely a fan question, but critique-based comments are also welcome! I am just curious as to how many folks were taken by this movie like I was. Simply put . . . did you love it? Where did this movie fit in the appreciation spectrum for you: Hate - like - love - don't care?I am asking because for reasons I cannot explain, this movie had an impact on me and I wonder who else felt the same. Thanks for your input. Loved it, great movie. Saw it when i was about twelve and probably another 3 times since then. Another year or so and it will be time for another rewatch:)

It's a great, great movie. I was fortunate enough to see it when it was released, and so the end scene with the ship behind Devil's Tower was a genuine awesome reveal.

So do you guys like the ending where Roy enters the mothership and leaves with the aliens or do you prefer the original theatrical ending? Original theatrical ending is where Roy enters the ship and leaves - the later edit reveals the inside of the ship. I preferred the original ending myself revealing too much detail diminishes the idea I feel.

The scene where the scientists scramble to find a globe so they can look up the coordinates from the alien transmission seems so quaint now due to it being so outdated technologically. A current movie now showing scientists scrambling to bring up Googlemaps on a smartphone just wouldn't be as dramatic. Lol, when I was on the phone with the insurance company about the hit and run accident the operator at the other end was using google earth to find the location... I offered to sent him a KMZ

It's been a while since I've seen the movie so all of the alternate endings and different versions of the film can be a blur to me.
