Hi all,

You've seen this?
http://www.nomanssky.com/atlas-rises-update/

I wasn't a fan when it first appeared, but for 22EUR at GOG and with the three major updates I decided to give it a shot now.

It does seem to be a reasonable gameplay experience so far. For my liking it's a bit thin on combat (yet) but that might still change. Visually the planets are okay, the infrastructure, ships and such are better than okay. The seamless planet to space to inside spaceships thing is pretty cool I have to admit.

Makes and interesting companion to EVERSPACE, which is procedurally generated combat with exploration to survive, while NMS is exploration with combat to surive...

That's a pretty comprehensive update. Seems it's finally approaching what was promised. It's a pity then that there is still a hardcore element of players (and I'm guessing many that don't actually own it) that still crap on it no matter what Hello Games do to it.

I'll give it another go sometime soon for sure.

MP and combat was never on my most wanted list but the new story mode is welcome.

I feel bad because I haven't played it for over 7 months. I will get back to it eventually.

If they keep adding quality updates and substantially improve the game I'll definitely give it a go. But I knew since pre-release that something was off with these guys and I've seen enough video showing how mediocre to garbage the flying is to make me wary of it still. Knowing that one of the game's highlights is spaceships and flying in space I'd be curious to know if that's any better. I don't need or want even in a game like this sim level flight dynamics but I do need real flight feeling physics to enjoy and not bump into invisible walls at low altitude.

The terrain avoidance was very annoying for me Coot but there was a mod that gave you full control. I guess the writer keeps it updated for each new iteration of the game. It would be a must have if I get back into it.

I'm trying to like it, but I'd need more combat to enjoy what is there. The "main story" seems decent enough at pulling you ahead, visiting barren rock planets so far hasn't given me any eyeopening wildlife wonder to behold.

Flying of the ship is... weird, like there's some delay built in. But not in a newtonian drift sense. The close to ground flying is there now, but still unable to fly underneath stone arches.

Visually it's okay, but I don't get the framerate hit it takes for what looks pretty basic. EVERSPACE looks ultra glorious and gives me double FPS.

Edit: Just seen that EVERSPACE got a new update today as well. Controller Support, TrackIR Support and a new gameplay mode. To me both games are a tad similar but the later is more about combat and kicks visually harder.

Everspace would be a great game if it had coop... the SP by yourself gets old quickly.
