I'm just asking....

Started a DVIIF Career for the first time - July 1918, my first late war career.

Flying the DVIIF is fun, but it seems to have a propensity for loosing a lower wing in tight turns.

Is that common?

I can only say that the AI make the DVIIF do amazingly tight turns and I have never seen them loose a lower wing in a turn.

Do you hear any creaking sounds leading up to the wing separation?

Not that I have been able to notice.

And I am pretty sure it happens without damage.

I will try to replicate in Quick Combat - with no enemy.

Like most of the craft you can't just fling them around at max possible turn under large force with no consequences. Ease into it and build up to a turn somewhat. Imagine you really are 5000m in the air with an engine strapped to your wooden winged early aircraft and how you really wouldn't want to tear the wings off.
You would usually get some creaking when over G, and do that too often or too long and you will lose a wing - that's what you seem to be describing anyway. Just because it's a super aircraft it doesn't mean you can't over do it. Ease back some.

Thanks Pol yes, I understand all of that. I do not "think" I am being more excessive than other aircraft I have been flying more recently. Perhaps with the more powerful engine....
I know the Nieuports and some Albs were especially susceptible to this. I'd just not heard that the DVIIF was also.
I understand that all planes were susceptible to this, but some are more prone than others.
Was not complaining, just looking to see if others had this perception.

Stache, out of curiosity I took the bird for a spin and put it through the wringer. It held up pretty well. Better than the Nieuports and Albatros D.III-D.V series, but not as well as a SPAD. I eventually broke the wing off, but it took some beating before giving up the ghost.
The weird thing I've noticed is this:

[Linked Image]

I was wondering what that was and switched to an exterior view and it looks like the lower port wing is "pre-broken". Anyone else gets this? This is no battle damage. It's fresh from the factory look.

[Linked Image]

Don't know if it's coincidence, but that's the wing that broke off.

Thanks guys, all is right with the Universe.

There is creaking going on - by no means constant.

I need to pay more attention to it.

I too took one up in QC and it did take a bit to break a wing.

This was the first time in the D.VIIF for me - flew a handful or so of missions and it seemed like I broke a wing off in at least half of them.

Engagements are taking longer and I may have more than one per mission, so that could be adding to it also.

There are two other alternatives. WARNING: most would consider the first, and definitely the second, to be cheating, so use only with caution.

Do not click unless you are the type of person who is willing to do anything to attain victory at all costs...

First, if you install JJJ's WOFF UE Multimod, you can edit how long (in seconds) you can submit your aircraft to overG and overspeed damage before it will start to break apart.

Second, you can go into the aircraft folder itself and edit the Fokker_DVIIF_Sqd.xfm file to raise the "maxGLoad" setting from 5 to 5.1, 5.2, or some higher value to suit your taste.

Again, either method is a bit of a cheat, but if you are a horrible pilot like me, you need all the help you can get!

Thanks Fullofit fixed, for a future patch. (the model showing broken parts, not the FM / DM systems which are fine).

No it's nothing at all to do with wing breaking, it's just a visual model issue.
