Not BS, researchers found it in a hut and believe it likely from Robert Scott's 1911 voyage.

Twitter responses:

" the historian in me says, What a find! ..the rest of me says ewwwww".

"Because even in the most barren place, 100 years ago, people still refused to eat fruit cake."

"100-year old fruitcake 'almost edible', much like fresh fruitcake".

"Honestly if it's 'almost edible' I'd call it a win for the fruitcake".

LOL. Has anyone actually eaten a "fruitcake"? Are they, in fact, meant to be eaten?

Didn't they eat their dogs ? I have never seen anybody, ever, eat that stuff. As a kid, there was usually one that would be in the back of the refrigerator for at least half the year. I always thought they could have made space shuttle tiles out of that stuff.

They probably tried feeding the dogs the fruitcake. They probably just pushed the bowl away with their noses.

When I saw the thread title I thought it meant they had found a elderly wandering lunatic.

"You'll never take me alive" said he,
And his ghost may be heard if you pass by that billabong
"Who'll come a Waltzing Matilda with me?"

I thought all fruitcake was 106 years old. Equally effective served to guests you'd rather not return or used as railroad ballast.

Fruitcake not popular here at SimHQ then? Don't blame you,I can't stand it although my sister makes a fruit loaf that is hard to resist if buttered.

These United States of America
The fruitcakes you see in stores at Christmas time to me always look like not only something that doesn't look good to eat, but it also looks and is packaged like they are from the 60s and they just keep pulling them out every year in hopes of selling them. I'm willing try it but I'd like it to at least look appealing. These hard, brown bricks infused with mysterious nuts and fruity looking goobers wrapped in cellophane make them appear more like a decoration than a foodstuff. I know a song called fruitcake about fruitcake that would probably make anyone want to eat fruitcake though.

Perhaps they should not tamper with the specimen and leave it in isolation. It could be The Thing hiding in the form of a Holiday treat eagerly awaiting a human host to inhabit.

Sadly yes on more than one occasion as a kid. Had an iron stomach at the time...
