Anyone tried this one yet? It looks fantastic. I'm curious how the campaign plays. I never did get around to buying Gettysburg, and this is the 'sequel'. Early reviews are good, it looks great and I think I'd like it, but I want to know more about the campaign system. http://store.steampowered.com/app/502520/?snr=1_4_4__129

I'll probably do a campaign AAR the next couple of days.

Hey PB, how are you? That would be great, looking forward to your AAR. I'm particularly interested in everything that isn't combat. Morale, supply, experience. What effect if any does one battle have on the next? That sort of stuff.
I would love a game like this if you had full freedom to move your forces, and the enemy did the same. And then when two forces attempt to occupy the same part of the map a battle results. If one side is already there it is fought as an attack/defend battle, and if both are moving in to it then it is a meeting engagement. But it appears that you're fighting a series of pre-determined historical battles.
Anyway, your AAR should be enlightening.

Bought this one a few days ago and I'm really enjoying it, simple to get into and play but enough depth and challenge to hold your interest. The campaign is quite good too, though so far I've only played it as the South.

Is it still in early release? Thanks!
Edit: never mind I just saw it is. Sorry.

Yeah, PM, I've said for years I'd like to see that. It could definitely work. But would it sell? That's the problem as I see it. You would buy it and so would I, but the market is small I think and having just two factions limits the appeal for any potential gamers that feel no connection to the subject matter.
But that focused nature could be one of the game's strengths. I see so much potential in using TW for a Civil War game but I doubt we'll ever see it due to the limited market appeal.
As for this game, PB's AAR actually made me NOT buy the game. It looks good, but I don't think it's the sort of game I would play for long.

I think what I am really looking for is a Total War: ACW. That would be very cool but I doubt they'd do only two factions, I guess it'd be possible to make every state a faction but then things would quickly go from American Civil War to American Warring States. Maybe Empire II could be set in the 19th century? Similar to Victoria II, colonise Africa, invade India, develop breechloaders etc. Could be a lot of fun. There were some good mods covering the Zulu wars and ACW for Empire/Napoleon.

It is kind of boring as PM stated but John Tillers game are just as slow going with all the mouse fests..But I still like it with all the warts,,,I've got Sid Meirs Civil war ...Scourge of war Gettysburg and some of the old Talonsoft Civil War titles..I have a few TW titles ,,Shogun 2,,Medieval 2,,Rome 2 emperors edition and like them a lot and the Civil War would be a good addition to those,,,I'm surprise there's not a CW mod out there

,I'm surprise there's not a CW mod out there Me too since the "Fall of the Samurai" DLC for Shogun 2 takes place during the same time as the ACW and the military technology involved is essentially the same.
“Whoever fights monsters should see to it that in the process he does not become a monster. And if you gaze long enough into an abyss, the abyss will gaze back into you.”

During the 90's I really enjoyed Sid Meir's Gettysburg. Watching the vids of UG reminds me of that game. Does it have that kind of feel and/or gameplay?
