We can't help it, it's an addiction. wink

Yeah Allen, good to know there are improvements coming. I'm really hoping to at least hit 3200 MHz as advertised.

Hey there.
Did you managed to get any better results? I dont know what to think about this, I have same memory sticks as you do and I just managed to run my new ryzen setup. My memory defaulted at 2133Mhz and my BIOS does not allow for any manual changes except for XMP off or on (Gigabyte AB350M). When I set it on it shows 3200Mhz (but then 2133Mhz next to it?) at 1.35V correctly but then failes 3-5 times when booting and did not show improvement in CPU-Z after launch.

As I was reading this topic my PC crashed (but not rebooted). I had to power off and reboot, it was failing to start couple times again so I went to BIOS to turn XMP off but noticed this time it showed 3200Mhz in both columns. I went to Windows and got this in CPU-Z.

I'm puzzled because you said that with 1T 3200Mhz is not available. Any ideas what happend? I'll see if my pc keeps crashing randomly (but at this point I have no idea is it RAMs fault anyway).

I quit experimenting with memory Overclock for a couple weeks. Nonetheless, I tried overclocking the memory earlier today (before seeing your post), and it failed (again). I planned to await the next BIOS before trying again.

I read your post. I tried CPUZ (again) to see what my memory was doing. I expected 2666 and 1T -- because the articles said 2T was unavailable now (need a new BIOS). The articles (and a Gigabyte MB Overclock guide said) there was no way to set 2T. But, some (not all) memory sticks need 2T to exceed 2666.

However, here's what I saw -- 2x1333 = 2666 and 2T. How did 2T happen??? Its supposed to be impossible with my MB??? Or is CPUZ giving a bad result??? Or, did "AMD Ryzen Master" do it???

As a side note: Notice that the North Bridge frequency matches the DRAM frequency. That's the "secret" why the Ryzen CPU runs faster with faster memory (I have read).

[Linked Image]

I used "AMD Ryzen Master" desktop overclocking utility to overclock (I did not directly use BIOS -- I only set BIOS memory voltage to 1.4000 by hand using BIOS as that was a suggestion to eliminate boot crashes).

When I set the MHz to 2666 or 3000 or 3200 using BIOS, the BIOS shows what I set it to and right next to that number is the previous value -- like 2666 2133 or 3000 2133. But, hand setting it in BIOS did not work for me -- it always failed to boot. However, AMD Ryzen Master worked better.

One thought, if you are getting boot crashes, maybe they will stop if you go into BIOS and set the memory voltage to 1.400 or 1.45 (like I had to do just to get 2666 to work without boot crash). Maybe (or maybe not) your memory sticks will work at 3200 with 1T after setting the voltage. If you cannot hand set the voltage on your MB, that may be whats causing your particular issue. Of course, raising the voltage by hand is always a risk -- at some point excessive voltage will cause a failure.

For those who did not know about it, here is the AMD Ryzen Master link:

https://www.amd.com/en/technologies/ryzen-master

I've attached my AMD Ryzen Master screen below. Note 4.0GHz CPU on all cores and 2666 memory speed.

For now, I don't know what's going on. If I really have 2T, then 3200 should work. I have to "look into it" some more. As noted above, maybe AMD Ryzen Master can automatically change to 2T (without telling me) even though the BIOS does not have that adjustment.

Thanks for your quick reply. I keep trying to post my results but my pc keep crashing sooner or later. This is definately memory issue at this point.

I did changed voltage to 1.35 manually (after enabling XMP which was supposed to raise it to 1.35V i set it manually anyway) and now it's booting on first go! It boots up to 2933Mhz, but fails at 3200Mhz even at 1.4V (I didn't want to push it). However pc crashed quick at 2933, so I'm trying 2660 now. I will be satisifed with 2400 which is supposed to me safe maximum for now according to this: [Linked Image] I'll report once I get stable results.

BTW. Before I changed this manually in BIOS, i tried Gigabytes "easy tune". and it would always show me my desired frequency after reboot even when CPUZ was displaying 2133. I used HWiNFO64 to cross check results afterwars, but they were same as in CPUZ (but that was after I stopped using easy tune).

PS. I found out why it quietly reboots. My motherboard doesn't have speaker so there are no beep codes! ; )

I tried searching the internet. Found an AMD overclocking document I had not seen. But, after reading, nothing was there I had not tried.

I tried a couple more times to get the memory above 2666. They always "broke" and, each time, I had to open the case, reset the bios, and begin again.

So, what I have is basically what I showed above in the two attachments -- CPU 4.0GHz on all cores at stock volts -- DDR4 at 2666MHz at stock volts (but I've set BIOS DDR4 startup volts to 1.35 to avoid crash on boot).

I have read that folks have issues with 32GB above 2666. Some high-end 2x8GB = 16GB does work at 3200. Seems like you get farther than I do -- I get nothing on boot above 2666 (but 2666 always works).

What I read says a new BIOS is coming in May that will address some of these issues. Hopefully, it will allow 32GB DDR4 OC to 3000 or 3200. I will now wait for that BIOS before I try again.

My ASUS Prime motherboard exchange just arrived today -- back from RMA. Now I have an extra motherboard. I notice ASUS has released more BIOS versions than GigaByte -- don't know if they fix the memory OC issue described in the above posts.

To repeat above information, I had 2 ASUS Prime MB AURA lighting fails. I returned the first MB to the local store. I RMA'd the second one -- took weeks to turn around. It seems they sent me a brand new MB -- new serial number -- there are no signs of fixes or handling.

Don't know how I'll use this new RMA return ASUS MB. However, as noted above, maybe my wife will get a Ryzen sooner than planned smile

Just a short note:

Ryzen 1800X can easily be set up as a 2, 4, 6, or 8 (8 is default) core CPU using "AMD Ryzen Master" software (a Windows desktop application -- no BIOS changes needed).

So, if you have an "old fashioned" game that only uses 1 or 2 cores (like some popular flight simulators), its easy to set up Ryzen as a 2 core CPU -- then, at the same moment (using AMD Ryzen Master) overclock it to a higher level than you could overclock 8 cores.

The setting (along with 3 others) can be one click saved using the AMD Ryzen Master software (on the desktop). Thus, one can easily optimize their Ryzen CPU for any type of game they play -- one to eight core, one to sixteen thread.

One can also, at the same time, overclock the memory using AMD Ryzen Master and save that along with the core changes.

FWIW. Don't know if this benefit was obvious to the casual AMD follower.

Regarding new Ryzen motherboard BIOS nominally scheduled for mid-May:

The current official BIOS for my motherboard is F3 (released in early April). I found no "official" company statements regarding when a newer official BIOS will be released.

I did find a Beta BIOS F4 release and an Alpha BIOS for my Gigabyte MB -- I downloaded the F4 Beta but have not tried installation.

Based on an unofficial statement in a thread by a Gigabyte employee (who is not working on the BIOS), the final official version may be released by the end of May. I may continue to wait for an official release as I have no issues with the current BIOS other than DDR4 memory clock.

I tried the Beta BIOS. They did not advertise it as making big changes or as 1006 BIOS. No changes that I noticed in practice.

I await the 1006 BIOS for my motherboard. That's supposed to be the difference maker. We'll see.

To be clear, performance is already very good. 1006 is merely supposed to be "noticeably" better.

AMD AGESA Update 1.0.0.6 Will Support Configurable Memory Sub Timings And Clockspeeds Up To 4,000 MHz

..The new AGESA 1.0.0.6 update has been distributed to its motherboard partners and will be part of updated BIOSes that should be out by the middle of June...

Hopefully, this will get my 3200MHz DDR4 to actually run at 3200MHz (its still at 2666).

As I noted in the AMD thread, I downloaded the 1006 Beta BIOS for my motherboard.

It gets me from 2666MHz to a stable 3000MHz. 3200MHz boots, starts windows 10, and runs for a while -- but is unstable, given the simple settings I used.

Also, the memory runs at 3000 and 3200 at 1T settings.

I imagine an experienced memory over clocker might get stable 3200MHz with my system. I just changed a couple voltages in a minor way and boosted the speed -- nothing special. Maybe the final BIOS coming in a couple weeks will do the job with simple settings.

HOWEVER, moving from 2666 to 3000 did not improve Ryzen CPU performance in the CPU-Z benchmark. Going from 2133 to 2666 made a very significant jump in the same benchmark.

I added a G.SKILL RIPJAWS KM780 RGB Mechanical Gaming Keyboard - Cherry MX Red with Gaming Keycaps. Cost $110 on sale. Does "everything". Easy to point and click program the individual keys. Each key color can be changed by point and click -- 16 million choices. One can make many different setups for different uses/games and push a key to load the one they want that second.

I added an AORUS THUNDER M7 GM-THUNDER M7 Black 16 Buttons 1 x Wheel USB Wired Laser 8200 dpi MMO Gaming Mouse. Cost $80. I can't see me using 16 buttons on a mouse. But, heck, I wanted something that would "never go out of date".

Next item I'll consider is an RX Vega graphics card -- due out this month. Decision depends on price/performance. My current RX480 does all I need at 1440p -- so, I'll be willing to wait for a good price/performance (but, I'd rather not wait smile ).

Here's my new keyboard and mouse with the color settings I've chosen. The actual colors and look of the keyboard are much nicer than they appear in this picture.

I recently updated to F5 (stable) bios. It did seem to revert some of my bios settings so as I was readjusting them (not OC related as I settled for 2133Mhz memory speed to avoid crashes) I decided to give it a go. I simply switched XMP on and left everything as default (it switches stuff automatically) and from now on I enjoy stable 2x16GB 3200Mhz at factory timings. Confirmation below after 6 passes/12h of memtest. Just a reminder, my motherboard is GA-AB350M-Gaming 3, so not a top end board by any means. [Linked Image]

I replaced my bog-standard Thrustmaster joystick with this Gladiator joystick -- my signature lists my current Joystick collection.

I got this one particularly for X-Plane 11 ($90 on sale). It fits compactly next to my keyboard and mouse. Has electronic sensors. Copies an actual WW2 joystick shape.

Feels good. Lots of convenient programmable buttons. Recommended for X-Plane 11. But, I'm not claiming its the best ever. Just fills a need for me.

Also, for X-Plane 11: Modding an existing aircraft and making a "from scratch" higher resolution female pilot figure using Blender and CorelDraw 2017 graphics suite. I consider those applications as part of "my Gaming Build" -- because I like to mod games almost more than playing them.
