I didn't follow WOFF development for a long time so forgive me if I ask some obvious stuff.
It seems that OBD is now working on a new project(WOTR) and that WOFFUE is now the "final" version of WOFF.
Now I would like to know how the status of the game is, is it a finished & polished product or is there still an amount of work to do?
And furthermore, is the content(maps & planes) now large enough to be considered as complete WW1 flight sim or are major things still missing?
And how will the support and future addition of content be if the OBD is now buissy with the new project?

I'm just worried that ROFF is repeated, there the devs went to another project and the potential of ROFF was never utilized.
Cheers

That is rather difficult to answer without knowledge of your view of terms "finished" and "complete". These terms are very subjective. wink

Believe me Rof/Bos soap is an perfect sample on how to kill a game. I can not imagine that OBD will left the attention from WW1.

Approximately 80 flyable airplanes and one of the most immersive single player campaigns, I would say that it is mostly finished. Of course, there are more planes that we all want but by and large, WOFFUE is a completed product.

OBD hasn't ruled out the possibility of future add-on packs, but they are neck deep in WOTR right now, so I don't anticipate any new content until they have released a payable version of WOTR first. They do have to put bread on the table!

As far as whether WOFF UE is a "completed product" like JJJ says, it depends on your point of view. WWI is too titanic for any one sim to cover the whole bloody enterprise.

I think you can describe any simulation in terms of both breadth and depth. Some sims are very broad, attempting to cover all theaters and all time periods, but without a lot of depth or detail. Other sims are more limited in scope, but more deeply cover the part that the sim has decided to focus on. WOFF UE is perhaps the ultimate expression of the second type. WOFF focuses on the Western front, so you won't have any Russian, Italian, or middle eastern aircraft. However, the depth of detail in terms of coverage of the Western front is incredible! I haven't even mentioned the depth of historical detail and devotion to historical accuracy contained in WOFF.

While no sim can appeal to every person's wish and desire (no Belgian units, cough, cough), I don't think you will be the slightest bit disappointed if you decide to take the plunge and purchase WOFF UE.

What BuckeyeBob said (including the coughing about the Belgians, but that can be simulated somewhat)

I would be very happy if all the rest of the planes that flew in WWI was added as flyable plane sets or AI types ( mostly French to include training planes) However, I will take what ever OBD puts out so far this is my most used and enjoyed sim.

Think all of the WW1 planes is rather huge ;-) was more thinking about the red text planes in the campaign mode as can be read in: http://SimHQ.com/forum/ubbthreads.php/topics/3889485/96/wish-list-for-woff

WOFF UE is not "ended" and we have never stated that anywhere. We are knee deep in WOTR at the moment, and when we have breathing time we hope to release more for WOFF.

There it is, straight from the horse's mouth!

Thanks, Polovski.

I look forward to Wings Over the Reich, and also look forward to anything OBD gives us with WOFF:UE....I've had a blast, and this game **is the spiritual and technical successor to the Dynamix and Microprose games Knights of the Air, Red Baron, and Red Baron II/3D including the Full Canvas Jacket uber mod for the RB3D software.**

Thanks to Polovski and the OBD team for their fine treatment of career aspects and aviation over the Western Front of WWI! thumbsup

Regards,

Jeff

When Pol said they were "knee deep" in WOTR, he forgot to add "head first..."!

I'd also add that even if WOFF UE stopped where it currently is - it would take you years, if not more, to play through all of the various potential campaigns. There are so many fronts, so many aircraft, so many different squadrons, that you can create a wide range of incredibly different experiences. I doubt I'll ever really play through all of it - but I'm happy to keep trying!

That said, knowing the devs for as long as I have (some of them from my Red Baron 3D days in the 90s), they'll never really be done. OFF has been worked on in one form or another now for... I'm starting to lose count guys, what is it? 12, 13 years now? I remember OvS sending me a disk for phase 2 back in 2005 or so. So in terms of investment? I can't think of a better game I've ever bought for sheer dollars to hours of play.

Hope this helps! Hope to see you around more as you dive into this fantastic sim!

Cheers!

I hope everybody understands that when I said WOFFUE was completed, I meant that the basic building of the application was completed. Enhancements never end and so OBD will continue to add things, but the OP was wondering if it was a finished product, and yes it is.

BigDuke,
I believe you will be very happy you did. Not only is it the finest WWI sim ever in my opinion, you will fine the group here as good as it gets for any help that you may need. As Lou is away from the forum for a bit I must inform you, new guys buy the drinks! Glad to have you in the skies of WOFF. Check out the DID Centenary Challage once you get your wings under you. We need new meat for the grinder.
