Hi all,
I've just finished my 10th 1:32 scale WW1 aircraft - the Fokker DR.1 Triplane.
Jasta 2 during March 1918, as flown by Wilhelm Papenmayer (4 victories).

However, for anyone interested, here's a link to the build log, which is in PDF format and can be downloaded if wanted.

Cheers for now,

Mike

Really nice job, lots of work there.

On a side note, it looks like Photobucket is looking for the fastest way to go out of business.

Very nice work. The cockpit detail is impressive, also the weathering effects. Sweet!

Based on your previous work I mightily look forward to the cooperation of Photo-Bucket.
Did you use the paint scheme pictured or something else?

Hi Duke,
The aircraft scheme was the standard Fokker 'streaked' camouflage of that period. There were no decals available so I had to try and replicate the streaking myself. I've seen it done using Oil paints, but I couldn't get it right, so reverted to airbrushing. The colours and streaking wasn't what I'd hoped for, but the kit needed so many mods to make it as accurate as possible, that frankly I lost the will to persevere. It's OK but not quite what I wanted.

Here are my two 1/5 scale RC versions. One is going to be Bongarzt's and the other I haven't decided. They are not quite finished but I think the streaking looks accurate enough.

Beautiful attention to detail, as usual, Sandbagger!

Do you have a picture of your whole collection somewhere? I would love to see it!

Sandbagger, please pardon hijack. DukeIronHand, these are Arizona Model arf models purchased 10 years ago. Availability now? I was very disappointed with them so put them on the shelf for a while. I am 'particular' and usually 'scratch build' everything including plans. It was either throw them away or 'fix' 'em! I practically rebuilt everything on these models. I even made the wheels and machine guns! I stripped the covering and put on Koverall with doped finish. You can see how the blue color has been 'returned' to the upper edges. The ailerons (originals thrown away) and other control surfaces (new rudder and stab/elev) operate via pull-pull cables and the gear has bungees. Skid (from Ash replacing junk stock) is sprung I made new cowls from fiberglass using my own molds.

Hi Arup,
No problem.
I never got into RC models as like many, I feared that after months of work, they would end up as a pile of pieces in a field somewhere.
However, I do regularly visit BMA shows in Lincolnshire, UK where I see true scale models, like yours, and am always amazed at the patience and dedication you guys put into them, not to mention the skills required.
Your two DR.1's are a fine example of this, especially given the amount of work you put in to bring them up to the level of accuracy you wanted.
Congratulations on great builds yep

Man you guys... Sandbagger, you've always done museum quality work, but if I ever showed my wife how neat and organized your work area is, well, she'd just have one more reason to hound my unfortunate messiness. ARUP, I'm with Sandbagger, if I could ever get one built, It'd probably never fly it out of fear! Good on ya!

Give acrylic paints a try for the streaking if you don't like the oils. But actually I agree with ARUP. I think they look great.
