ED's forum LinkNews of Su-33 for DCS World Currently in the Eagle Dynamics update hangar is our Su-33 for DCS World / Flaming Cliffs 3. This carrier-borne aircraft is in the final stages of receiving a big, FREE update that includes much improved flight dynamics and the addition of several new systems. This will bring our Su-33 much more aligned with its real-world counterpar Features of this upcoming Su-33 update include: Professional Flight Model (PFM) More detailed and accurate simulation of the wing control surfaces that include the leading and trailing edge flaps and the differential ailerons. In addition to the conventional differential stabilizers, canard behavior has also been improved for more realistic behavior. The Flight Control System (FCS) will automatically reconfigure itself depending on the flight mode. The adaptations that make the Su-33 aircraft carrier-capable have been updated and improved to include the wing-fold mechanism, reinforced landing gear struts, and the inclusion of high-gain nose wheel steering for use on crowded carrier decks. The physical mechanisms by which the arrestor hook engages the aircraft carrier arrestor wire has been greatly improved. Correct physics have been applied to the arrestor wire and its’ interaction with the aircraft. The engines now have a “special mode” that adds up to 12,800 kg of thrust (instead of the normal 12,500 kg of thrust). This mode also includes realistic operating time restrictions. A new FCS mode used when aerial refueling has also been implemented. When in this mode and the control stick is released, the aircraft will automatically maintain level flight. This FCS mode allows fine-control and thus making it easier to make contact with the tanker within a pitch range of plus or minus 5 degrees and of a roll angle of plus or minus 10 degrees. The Auto-Thrust Control (ATC) is used for automatic speed holding and can be fine-tuned with a set speed switch. This can be useful with landing on the carrier. The automatic collision avoidance system (“Uvod” mode) is now included and allows safe nap-of-the-earth flying.

What's with the emphasis on FREE? It's still an FC3 aircraft, is it not? If they upgraded it to DCS levels and still kept it a FREE update, then sure....
Also, didn't the old version already have folding wings?

The FM is being upgraded to DCS levels. For FREE. It's not a small thing.

Well, isn't all the work being done for 1.5.xx and 2.xx being done for FREE as well anyway? That's not a small thing either...

That's right.
In any case, there are a bunch of peeps who have been waiting for this. It has been in the pipeline and it should bring an interesting and appropriate opponent for the hornet.

And what about the magnitude more 'peeps' awaiting 2.5? Back in Dec 2016 where it was delayed again for the 17th time ED stated it was in their list of priorities behind the Spit and the Normandy Map. These have obviously been released now (ED alpha/beta/never to be finished release) yet there is absolutely nothing mentioned about 2.5 which has to be one of the key drivers for wasted money/resources/time for both ED and third parties supporting all these multiple dev streams.

Also, didn't the old version already have folding wings? You're making it seem like this is a bad thing. It is getting the PFM and some new modes, but thankfully not a fully clickable cockpit and a high price tag. I'd buy more planes like this. Planes like the M2000C, due to their complex nature and the inability to find detailed research on newer -5 or -9 variants has kept me from buying it. I may get it eventually, but a -5F or newer that was simple enough to learn would have been a must buy for me. I'll take an FC3 level F-16, Su-35, MIG-29K or Super Hornet any day of the week over an older, less capable plane that takes too long to learn. They also tend to come with a much higher price tag to...

I suspect you would enjoy the M2000C; have you, or have you considered the F-5E? It's a great little aircraft to learn flying on You're making it seem like this is a bad thing. I don't know; they're two completely separate things. 2.5 is basically waiting for the remake of Caucasus to finish it's basically about putting Caucasus in the new terrain engine used in 2.1. I couldn't tell you how far along that is, but I'm sure Wags will share when there are more news.

In any case, there are a bunch of peeps who have been waiting for this. It has been in the pipeline and it should bring an interesting and appropriate opponent for the hornet. As opposed to the "bunch of peeps" who have been waiting for 2.5 or the Hornet? Is **NOW** really a time to be working on the Su-33 amidst Nevada, Normandy, 2.5, the Hornet, and WWII? Does the ED director of programming resources have ADHD?? You're making it seem like this is a bad thing. It is getting the PFM and some new modes, but thankfully not a fully clickable cockpit and a high price tag. Nope, it isn't a bad thing... just... see my reply above to GrayGhost. I'd love a 6DoF, fully-clickable pit even if it's not DCS-level... and don't get me wrong here, my go-to planes were the A-10C, A-10A, Su-27, and Su-33.... but again, read above. but I'm sure Wags will share when there are more news. Well, seeing as Wags hasn't shared any news, it's either you're wrong (Wags is keeping his mouth shut) or there is NO news to share. Either way doesn't look good...

M2000C is the plane I'm looking for the most that is released, but the 4 missiles and lack of a good dog fighting mode for the missiles has kept me from buying. I had Steam Wallet funds that I wanted to use on it, but when it came to Steam, they stopped allowing it to be redeemed in the ED client (Valve insisted from the sounds of it). So I bought ArmA 3 stuff which I regret instead. Time prevents me from spending $30-40+ on a plane I may never learn. That is why I prefer the FC3 levels. I'd happily pay $30 or so if I knew I would use it. The F-5E looks okay but I prefer the M2000C. I did make the UK F-5E livery though. So if you happen to use the UK themed F-5E in game I hope you enjoy it.

Ying and Yang in action. At it's finest. Annoying? Perhaps I prefer to have my critical views shared in a gentle relaxed manner. But that's just me Indeed! I prefer to come to SimHQ and get feedback off fellow players for games I'm interested in rather than "drink the Kool-Aid" from the game's website... heck even on the just-finished Steam sales, I look at negative reviews for games to see what people have found wrong with that game. When buying a car, do you make your decision after talking to a car salesman?? As for sharing my views in a gentle and relaxed manner, part of that has eroded away over time. Why introduce a closed-minded fan to the truth and try to gently coax him to see the light if you can just pour the whole tank of the cold-hard-truth and shock him awake? Then you start seeing posts of "If you hate the game so much, why are you posting here?" or "You're such a negative person, you should re-evaluate your priorities!" which is simply a feeble attempt to deny the truth that has just washed over the poster. So again, if you find the critical view of ED's actions offensive, I'm sure there's a more reputable forum out there if you look hard enough. If you think my critical views are wrong, however, I'd love to hear your counter argument.

EXCELLENT!
I've been waiting for a PFM for the Su-33 for YEARS. Very happy to hear this news.
I do wonder if the recent updates for naval aviation will fix the problem of helicopters sliding around on ship decks. One thing at a time old boy. It's probably going to make it worse, for now, but don't worry that will probably be addressed in 3-5 years
DCS Kickstarter Wags July 2014 "In this July 2014 update, the primary news is in regards to the restructured backer rewards. After a careful review of the older system under RRG, we found it financially unattainable." Wags October 2017 "the investment vs. generated revenue has been excellent for the World War II aircraft. In fact, the P-51D Mustang has twice the cost effectiveness of the A-10C Warthog."

+1 I would even settle for a FC3 level AH-64 A/D Anyway. Looking forward to PFM for the Su-33. With limited time the FC3 level is a good companion to one or two of the study sim level. Love the Gazelle and the Ka-50.

I do work hard at this Yes you do Nate I am amazed you do not lobby for some green 'reputation' squares like ED's forums......surely with posts like this, not only are you wasting bandwidth but it proves how little the ED simulation community think of you now that you lost the official 'tester' status. Kind of makes me wonder......when was the last time you posted something in these forums that was constructive.....other than more wasted bandwidth in Toms spitfire skin Thread.

Sigh! I miss that beautiful cockpit... and that is one beautiful aircraft.... On the plus side, YAY for arrestor wire animations! Although it's not clear if we can see which wire he snagged, but I don't think they'll skip that one.
Thanks for sharing!

Ok,I'm not a huge DCS fan but I found that to be very impressive. I hope they add ground crew etc to make it more immersive.

You can very well get it now I've had FC3 for ages and is a very fun set of aircraft if you're not looking for full fidelity. I've not actually fought properly on the Su-27/Su-33 though... most of my flights were for fun or training or doing carrier traps.

Have FC3 too, just haven't dedicated any time to the Su-33... will have to soon...
Too much time in the Su-25 and 25T which are my preferred AC in DCS...
I remember in Flanker there was a mod to to the Su-25 which added to it a hook to make it into a Su-25UTG so you could takeoff and land on the Kuznetsov... that was cool...

I would pay for a MIG-29K, or Su-35S. Even if the flight models were based off of the -29S and -27S and guesstimated to feel more like the modern planes. But that would probably be too much, as the new planes have fly by wire and whatnot. Tom Clancys H.A.W.X have lot of modern planes to fly.

To be fair, some part of flightsim is still Call of Duty soldiers like looking around 360degree freely under sustained 9+ g.

The FM is being upgraded to DCS levels. For FREE. It's not a small thing. It is a small thing. Flight model updates are cheap and easy to make for the developers, despite what they are claiming. The main work amount and time for developing a module is for cockpit interaction, not the flight model. That is why we get these free updates, but we have to pay 50$ for clickable cockpit modules.

Yeah that's why we have ultra realistic flightmodel on every simulators nowdays.
