I'm starting to look at updating my current system, built in 2010 in an i7 Bloomfield and dual RADEON HD 6850s. It's been pretty solid, and run past titles well on my triple 27" setup. However, it appears to be underpowered for support Oculus, and presumably HTC Vive. It also seems to increasingly be underpowered for more recent titles. I have to set settings low on Shadow of Moridor and Witcher III with single displays.

All of this is to say, what should I be targeting? Intel has a variety of i7's now, and I haven't tracked nVidia GPU progress to know where I should be looking. I'd like to run DCS on my triple display setup and eventually support a VR headset. In a related question, is there "pre-built" systems that anyone would recommend? I've built from components with all my past machines, but time is short these days.

The i5 line should be sufficient (6600K, 7600K), then it's a GTX 970 or higher.... and depending on the game you're running and your tolerances, sometimes a 1080 might not even be enough The joys of VR.
