Anyone tried out Helldivers?? It's from the same guys that made Magicka.... VERY fun co-op. Not so much SP, too easy to get overwhelmed. Cool game. Yeah, caved in and bought it... very fun SP but can see how it'll be even better in MP with friends!

I've bought more games from this sale than usual. So far
Prey $40 Styx:Shards of Darkness $24 Shadow Tactics :Blades of the Shogun $30 Outlast $3
What's the scoop with Dark Souls 3? I've been eyeing these games for what seems like forever now. DS 3 gets great reviews. But I also know that you die a lot. You need to die and die until you work out the pattern that will succeed? Is that about right? I love a challenging game and want to play this. Thing is I am not sure how I will feel about it. I keep thinking of the Kayran in Witcher 2 and how frustrated I got until I could work out what to do and I even needed to watch a youtube video to see what I needed to do. They say in Dark Souls though that the sense of satisfaction from overcoming these challenging opponents more than makes up for it. Any thoughts on this aspect of Dark Souls? I feel like I'm missing a great game.
I have Bloodborne for PS4 but only played for a few minutes because I wasn't getting on with the 'two-stick' controls. Nothing about the game, just my distaste (or clumsiness) for the control scheme

Picked up Ghost Recon Wildlands yesterday for £27, seems a good deal. Only have a half dozen hours in but loving it, I can see this being my no1 game for a good while yet. Playing on the hardest difficulty setting with no hud, you have to be really on the ball. Mick.

Tomb Raider 2013 and Rise of the Tomb Raider are great games. I hope to start a second playthrough of Rise of Tomb Raider soon.
DBond I hear you. I've always wanted to try Dark Souls as well but I don't like getting stuck in games. I tried Demon Souls for a little while on PS3 but found it too creepy. I tried Dark Souls on PS3 and was again too creeped out and not only that it starts out with a boss that I couldn't beat lol. I still want to try them but I think I'll have to be in the right mood and prepare myself a bit. I understand your frustration about the Kayran fight in Witcher 2 but I don't believe that it exactly compares really to the Dark Souls style of combat vs. boss except for the frustration of getting stuck part which I sure did when first trying to play that mission. I love the Witcher games(currently on my third playthrough of Witcher 2)but that Kayran fight was just an oddball, ill-conceived, totally out of place segment of the game. It was just a very poor execution of a boss fight heavily utilizing QTE simon says mechanics and not the kind of combat you can expect in a Dark Souls fight from what I can gather. I also had to turn "Difficult QTEs" in the Witcher options, turn difficulty down to medium and watch a Youtube walkthrough to figure out how to get passed the Kayran mission. I'm not sure what CDProjekt Red was thinking when they did that but the Kayran mission had little to nothing to do with even the game's own combat system. It was just a bizarre, poorly designed boss fight segment. Parts of it were okay but all in all there was a lot of unnecessary confusion in what you were to do because of how they designed it.
Maybe a good stepping stone game would be Dragon's Dogma. I really enjoy that game and though its not exactly the same kind of game as Dark Souls, it has similarities. I find that for me it has a good balance of difficulty for me. It can still get frustrating but not impossible and I find that it does a good job of teaching you what you need to do. Plus I really like the Pawn system to have help but also friendly company to travel around with me. I feel less alone in those more creepy areas of the world knowing that I have friends that have already been with me for multiple hours including my own personal pawn who has been with my from the beginning. Their dialogue is enjoyable to me and helps ease trepedation and though they do repeat a lot of things, I am constantly hearing new things from them. Not only that they also have comments to make about currently active quests which is awesome.
I still want to try Dark Souls myself but when I'm ready I will probably try Dark Souls 1 on pc first.

Thanks Coot, good post. Yes, I mentioned the Kayran to illustrate how it made me feel to be in that position, not because of any similarities in the combat between the two games. Just being honest with myself and realize my limitations If I had a gaming 'philosophy' it's to just play and see what happens, not reloading or min-maxing all the time. It's as though my perception of what I will find in Dark Souls is the opposite of what I tend to find appealing, and I guess at the core of why I posted about it. The main issue is that for whatever reason I might find it doesn't matter a bit and the challenge proves to be fun and interesting. Or I could shelve it in frustration. I don't know that I would find the game beyond me, but maybe beyond my patience. I should just play it and see eh? I posted because I thought there might be some others who had the same reservations and played it (or any of the Souls titles). I wonder which side of the coin they fell on.

I got some stuff checked out my list, but I went between GOG, Humble Bundle and Steam to get the best price.
The only returned item was a game called Cradle from Steam. Had a great potential based on the story synopsis, but has poor execution IMO. Was surprised to get my refund in less than 3 hours after opening the ticket with support.
What I got -
SOMA - I saw the start of a playthrough on this and did not impress me, but reviews of people that have completed it make it sound stellar. So I will give it a shot. Wasteland 2 - Have been waiting a long time to give this one a go, and finally found it at a price I am willing to pay for. Homeworld: Remastered and Emergence - same as above. Lords of the Fallen - This I wanted on release but was pretty buggy. Now it is much more stable. Think of it as Dark Souls light. I'm a masochist... Singularity: An FPS from Raven Software released on 2010. Very good story, but graphics have not aged very well. Think of it as a military themed Fallout in an alternative reality Soviet Union. Missing DLC for Sentinels of the Multiverse : Comic's Superhero themed card game. It's a geek thing. Submerged - very atmospheric and simple indie game with great graphics. If you liked Brothers: A Tale of Two Sons, you will like this one. All the Serious Sam games : Got them all for less than $20, and I have never played them. Have been told it is a sin to have never done so as a fan of FPS games. House of the Dying Sun : Short but sweet space combat game (not sim).
Also, Argo and Malden DLC for Arma 3 were released from Bohemia for free, so I have been exploring and experimenting in those. Got My SW: Knights of the Old Republic running again on widescreen with the latest mods. Beyond Skyrim: Bruma mod was released for the original game (Special Edition version incoming)... and I played that for a couple of hours and I am very impressed with the concept, but for me, it is very buggy.

I wish the GR Wildlands new dlc was on sale. Gal Civ 3 is a lot of fun. Shoot me a line if you want to play multiplayer some time. Baron and I both play it.

I never did buy Gal Civ 3. I owned Gal Civ 2, and used to enjoy the political, technology, and building elements. But then war would eventually come, and I never enjoyed that phase as much.

Will do! Never played 2, but thought he upgrade to 3 and better graphics might get me going with it.
