Yet another list of top 100 horror films.... I agree with this one for the most part, especially the top 10 - https://www.pastemagazine.com/articles/2017/06/the-100-best-horror-movies-of-all-time.html?a=1Found I have not watched 22 films in the list. Not so much anymore, but in my teens and early 20's, I was a full on horror buff. I miss my Fangoria and Monsters (and Starlog) magazine subscriptions.

Oh, yeah...there are a lot of missing movies in the list, but I will classify those I think about as more jumpy-scary than good horror (well written, acted...or seminal on one way or another.
For example, The Phantasm series, no Chucky, Brain Dead, The House...etc.
But I agree The Ring should be there (the original Japanese version). I would have taken out Blair Witch Project.

I wasn't surprised 'The Exorcist' was No1,it's hard to beat. I first saw it when I was living in London in 1976.I took my girlfriend,it was one of our first dates I think and I was nervous about the whole thing. Should I put my arm around her? You know the sort of thing that us young men worry about. Well I do remember that we cowered up together holding each other in total fear. I'd never seen anything like this. It affected me for years afterwards, especially if I heard noises from the attic.
It took me many, many years before I watched it again and I was surprised to see it still held up well.

The usual suspects up at the top 10.
But no mention of John Carpenter's "Prince of Darkness"? A criminally underrated and much over looked horror movie.
+1, that one scarred me for quite a while! EDIT: Glad to see The Changeling on that list.

Horror flicks have never been my thing. I have only seen nine on the list. - 90. Creepshow, 1982 - Adrienne Barbeau was looking good in that time frame.
- 50. The Fly, 1958, 1986 - (The 1986 version)
- 31. A Nightmare on Elm Street, 1984
- 19. Poltergeist, 1982
- 11. The Silence of the Lambs, 1991
- 10. An American Werewolf in London, 1981
(Main thing I remember is that the lead, David Naughton, made Dr Pepper commercials before he did this movie.) - 7. Jaws, 1975
I was ten and I had talked my Grandmother into taking me to see it until she saw it involved a fish. My uncle, who had Down's syndrome, had watched the Don Knotts movie "The Incredible Mr Limpet" and had nightmares for months according to her so she nixed the idea. We ended up seeing that gem of a movie "Heaven Can Wait" with Warren Beatty and Jack Warden. Finally saw Jaws in my thirties and know I would have had nightmares longer than a few months if I had seen it at ten. - 5. The Thing, 1982
- 3. Alien, 1979

I guess I have seen most of the english versions. My question is... Do the movies in black and white hold the same scare factor as the color movies that can show all the blood and gore in living color. Ah I know some movies in Black and White transend the scare factor because of the story. Looking back to the black and white shows I used to watch on on the late late show after sneaking down stairs after my parents went to bed. The old monster movies, to me haven't held up that scare factor. For the old black and white--they don't hold up for me either. Horror wasn't considered an "adult" genre back then and a lot of those movies have intended younger audiences in mind plus with the stricter censorship a lot of the "horrifying" subjects of more recent movies couldn't be included.

This is absolutely correct. It's the same reason why so many of the classic war movies from the 1940's through the 1960's seem so sanitized by today's standards.
“Whoever fights monsters should see to it that in the process he does not become a monster. And if you gaze long enough into an abyss, the abyss will gaze back into you.”

Throwing out that I have not seen most of the films from the 2000's I have seen 43 of the movies on the list and 8 of the top 10.
My movie viewing has been very few and far between for a loooong time now, so much good stuff coming from the small screen.
