^ I would almost be willing to cut a deal with the devil to be able to play like that.

Speaking of the devil (as in "Shout at the Devil"), there's a possibility that the next Red, Rock & Blue show will include tributes of Mötley Crüe and Def Leppard (vs. last year's Aerosmith, Gn'R, VH, earlier in my thread). Throw in a Quiet Riot tribute as the third act and I'm right back in Feb. of 1984 (albums "Shout at the Devil", "Pyromania" and "Metal Health" [all 3 released in '83]), what I was listening to with friends the night of the Footloose opening, when my wife and I had our first real conversation in the theater parking lot ("I think this chick is finally starting to like me!"). Man, I hope that's the acts that'll be playing this year!

On our NYC road trip this April, we were considering driving north about an hour or so (I think) to catch a show at "Daryl's House Club". I have two videos on this thread from that place, the tribute bands Rumours (Fleetwood Mac) and Zoso (Led Zeppelin), but no one is playing during our vacation that we're interested in. The place is owned and run by Daryl Hall from Hall and Oats.
Also along the way, we're going to try to catch the Yacht Rock Revue again, in a place they own in Atlanta.

"Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers" tribute is a go, looking forward to it.

I don't know if these tribute bands keep raising the bar or if they're all just really that good...
They played for two hours, covering pretty much all of Tom Petty's greatest hits (only one I noticed missing was "Don't Come Around Here No More").
Another out-freaking-standing performance, sounded just like the real thing! They played my favorites ("Here Comes My Girl", "Refugee", "Breakdown") and my wife's favorites ("American Girl", "Free Falling", "Mary Jane's Last Dance") as we knew they would. At one point "Tom Petty" reached down and handed my wife a guitar pic which was really cool.
Since closing down our shrimp fajitas restaurant, we just eat dinner at home now (healthier and cheaper), so total cost for the evening was only $33.00. We had a coffee thermos waiting in the car (favorite off-campus coffee shop closes at 11, right as these shows are usually letting out). Last night was a nice evening to walk the campus, the rain had stopped and it wasn't cold. Waiting for the next show (probably Molly Ringwalds, Mar. 24th)...

Currently in a cover/tribute band drought right now.
Brit Floyd in NYC played "The Final Cut" which was a nice surprise. I knew when they started playing ""Southampton Dock" that we were going to get it, wish they would have also played "The Gunner's Dream".
Summer is coming, bringing outdoor concert weekends to downtown Baton Rouge, we can't wait. Hoping for some good Southern Rock.

I was in Memphis not long ago, will probably return on next trip to Nashville (mainly to spend an evening checking out tribute/cover bands). I'll keep these guys in mind, thanks.
Seem to be heavy on R.E.M., I like it.

The Atomic Punks are coming back to the Varsity, along with 5150 (Hagar VH tribute) and a Mötley Crüe tribute...
Other than no 'Def Leppard', I'm jazzed!
EDIT: The $20.00 ticket puts you on the floor (always at front of stage for us), the $75.00 puts you in the back, 2nd level balcony with a chair and dinner (possibly drinks). Eh, I'll eat and drink before claiming my space at front of stage (never difficult to do). Man, I can't wait!

And another 'Prince' is coming to town to the Varsity, thinking about it. EDIT: Oops, July 26, night of Paula Cole, scratch that.

[Re: MarkG]
^ This Saturday night. Looking back over last year's Red Rock & Blue show (page 1), each of 3 tribute bands do a 1.5 hour set with a 15 min. intermission between sets, for a 5 hour show.
This is what I'm hoping for...
Mötley Inc. (Mötley Crüe):
Shout At The Devil Looks That Kill Helter Skelter Too Young To Fall In Love Girls, Girls, Girls Kickstart My Heart Wild Side Dr. Feelgood Same Ol' Situation (S.O.S) Home Sweet Home Don't Go Away Mad (Just Go Away) Without You Too Fast For Love Smokin' In The Boys' Room Primal Scream
5150 (Sammy Hagar VH):
Poundcake Right Now When It's Love Humans Being Black And Blue Cabo Wabo Feels So Good Finish What Ya Started Runaround Top Of The World Why Can't This Be Love Dreams Summer Nights Best Of Both Worlds Love Walks In
Alternatives/Additional:
316 5150 + Almost anything off Balance, especially: The Seventh Seal Can't Stop Lovin' You Don't Tell Me (What Love Can Do) Amsterdam Not Enough Aftershock Doin' Time/Baluchitherium [Instrumental] Take Me Back (Deja Vu) Feelin' + With a couple Sammy Hagar hits from this selection: Heavy Metal There's Only One Way To Rock Your Love Is Driving Me Crazy I Can't Drive 55 The Girl Gets Around Eagles Fly Little White Lie
========== And maybe this one, because I like the lyrics (lol)...
“I got this strange fascination For this chick, down the hall Reliable information, Yeah Says she ain't givin' up the ball
But Friday night, I'll be checkin' it out From the back of my van........ Fast Times at Ridgemont High” ==========
Atomic Punks (DLR VH):
Where Have All the Good Times Gone! Little Guitars Mean Street Runnin' with the Devil Feel Your Love Tonight Ice Cream Man Dance the Night Away Beautiful Girls And the Cradle Will Rock... Everybody Wants Some!! I'll Wait Hot for Teacher Panama Somebody Get Me a Doctor Bottoms Up!
Alternatives/Additional:
Cathedral 1984/Jump Unchained Eruption / You Really Got Me Ain't Talkin' 'Bout Love Jamie's Cryin' Little Dreamer Intruder / (Oh) Pretty Woman You're No Good Take Your Whiskey Home Drop Dead Legs
++++++++++
I hope it's as good as last year, and have no reason to think it won't be. I know the Atomic Punks are great (returning as headliner).
I'd have to check my records, but I'm at least 20 lbs. lighter on my feet than at last year's show and I know after NYC I that have good foot endurance now, so that should be fine.

<I'll post a couple of pics once I figure out how to connect wife's iPhone to Linux Mint.>
Once again, the Atomic Punks (one of the oldest and most famous tribute bands) blew the roof off the joint! I misunderstood the bands, the Atomic Punks played both VH sets. 5150 was just 'Sammy Hagar' being the front man for the first set, then after an intermission the band returned with their own David Lee Roth singer. These guys are unbelievably good, the Brit Floyd of Van Halen. Also, the setlist was almost identical to what I posted above (including some of Hagar's hit singles but minus the Balance stuff, as expected). I even guessed the start of the Sammy set being Poundcake!
Motley Inc. was also very good, and again my setlist was almost dead on. I couldn't believe that right off the bat they covered all the Shout At The Devil material. I really couldn't have asked for better. I was living in 1984 all weekend!
I grabbed this pic off Red Rock & Blue facebook (only pic they posted), you can see only the back of my bald head, front of stage and a little right (wife was in front of me)...
I can't wait until next year.
