I've decided to post this here instead of Technical Issues section because I don't think it's broken, unless we count immersion. I was trying to use my imagination like Pol always tells us to do when something inexplicable happens, but I have nothing, unless I'm flying for Jasta Mönty Pythön. So, I'll take any explanations for this debrief. Have at it.

Hmm, sounds like a distant, entrenched, army post erroneously reported the balloon as destroyed. This was the first report to make it to the squadron. However, a friendly observation balloon correctly reported that the enemy balloon was not destroyed. This report was delayed in getting back to the squadron. As you were being debriefed the second report came in. C'est la guerre!

Fullofit, I just had the exact thing happen to my DID pilot, RNAS 8. Debrief was the same as you show. I was told that, yes, you got the balloon but they immediately sent another back up so you have to back. Tally Ho! At least that's what my imagination told me.
Never approach a bull from the front, a horse from the rear or a fool from either end. BOC Member since....I can't remember!

Jammer, that story would have worked if the balloon had not been knocked out. It has. With reports like that, the friendly balloon will be in real trouble next time it comes to defending it. Robert, fog of war ... hmmm, perhaps they should send a flight to verify the claim? MFair, I thought those balloons could not be so easily replaced, hence such heavy antiaircraft defense. Those brass hats are getting me down.

I like to think of it as : Wrong location reported or the wires got crossed by the spotters. For example, the spotter reported the balloon located to the West in stead of East. or the wrong unit reported what was to their front. Perhaps, The 111th Arty Observer report got mixed with the 11 th and report that area ?
like Pov said, the actual balloons are easily replaced. You've got to take out the valuable, trained observer. It's not very cricket, but it is war. Back you go!
