Fun in P3D 2.5 with FireFighter X. I definitely recommend this to anyone looking for something to make FSX or P3D a little more fun. Approaching Coming off a drop Watching the AI drop (tried to get closer but it was tough to stay in formation with the AI and I got separated on the approach) Photo op

It's an add-on made for P3D or the many versions of FSX and anyone can buy it. Only $15! It doesn't include any aircraft, but it will work with any default or add-on aircraft you choose. For $15 it completely transforms FSX or P3D into a "game". http://firefighterx.weebly.com

Another call out of KPRB for a fire burning east of Atascadero Lake. Here we go! That doesn't look too big... Looks like some houses might be in danger. I decide to make a downwind pass on each side of the fire, hoping to start to box it in so I can then cut it off at the head. Coming in for pass #1, and coming off the drop In the pattern for another pass, I can see where my first drop landed Setting up for pass #2... ... and may have gotten a little low!!! I survey my work. Yep, drops down each side, and the fire looks like it's dying down. I RTB for full tanks, and I head back to finish the job.

Uh oh. What's all that orange stuff? Looks like the wind was causing problems while I was away. My first two drops held the sides in, but the fire moved ahead and is starting to spread. Had my head down playing with the drop configuration tool and wound up in a canyon! Oops! I'm going to try to cut the fire off to keep the wind from spreading it further west into the hills. In this shot you can see how the fire is moving and growing based on the wind in P3D Final approach... I'm set up to drop 25% of my tank this time instead of 50% so I can try to get more passes out of this flight. I make the drop and do sort of a question mark turn to the right and then back to the left to hit the head of the fire from the other side. I can barely make out the marks from my last pass. Another drop This may be a losing battle... One more drop just for fun, then I need to go to bed... Well, I think it's safe to say that was a failure... What a great addon! Clearly, I have lots to learn about aerial firefighting. I think next time I need to focus on making some drops at the head of the fire to slow its advance first. And maybe use the AI feature to call in some AI flights while I'm reloading to keep things from getting out of hand.

Very cool indeed. This is the kind of thing typically found in ArmA, but not the likes of FSX. Imagine the fun in multiplayer.
I wish they'd port it to Xplane, I'd buy it immediately.

It's pretty fun. And there's a lot I haven't tried yet, like building my own fires (you could put some really large fires in some challenging locations), use of helicopters, water scooping and dropping, or even just some smaller and more nimble retardant tankers that might be a little more fun to fly. You can also download real world fire data, which is something I'll have to try this summer.

So today I went with something a little more... sporty! Thar she blows! I actually rode in a mountain bike race once just off the wingtip there... I made a couple of passes, and then had the forestry service meet me with a retardant truck at 2O3, which happens to be a stone's throw from the fire. I made a few more drops... But once again it was time for bed, and I left the fire a bit bigger than when I arrived.
