The only thing that bothered me about the battle was the predictable use of deus ex machina with Bailish and the soldiers of the Veil coming to save the day. For me it was mostly the fact that Sansa had warned Jon to expect a trap, Rickon was too stupid to zigzag (no way a lofted arrow could have hit him then) and then Jon did exactly what the night before was clearly discussed not to do. In my opinion they could have constructed a critical, close-won victory just a nicely in other ways not requiring the two Stark Boys to behave like idiots. That plot direction just seemed forced to me. The visuals were grand however, reminded me of SPR Beach Scene.

The Vale! [and Baelish ] I haven't read the books so cut me some slack! Don't worry, at GRRM's pace you'll be able to read all his work at least twice before the next book is released.

Their chances at winning were bleak to begin with, so they could easily get to the brink of defeat without glaring, stupid, out-of-character mistakes.

The whole point was to show Jon is still young and lacking necessary experience. Yeah, he's fought some battles, but he's not fought every type of battle there is. He's not a brilliant leader, he's just a good leader that can and will make mistakes. Sansa knew what Ramsay would do more or less, she warned Jon, he disregarded it. Rickon is supposed to be only what, 11? The child actors are older than their characters should be at this point, don't make the mistake of looking at them and saying "oh well he's a late teenager he should have some sense of battlefield evasion tactics." To be more realistic, Rickon should've tripped and fallen at least twice, once sitting there holding his bruise for a couple of minutes before getting up and continuing. THAT is how a pre teen would act. That aside, how great was it to see Tim McInnerny as Glover? And then there's Lady Mormont, who won't take crap from anyone, even 6 times her age. The Jedi Master

Battle of the Bastards was stupid. Very. I wanted to get up and strangle Jon trough the TV screen. Not sure why they needed to make him temporarily stupid
The only thing that bothered me about the battle was the predictable use of deus ex machina with Bailish and the soldiers of the Veil coming to save the day. The fact that Jon fought at all is what bothered me. He can't have thought Ramsay was actually going to let Rickon live, and he really needed to be a cold-blooded commander and sacrifice Rickon if necessary. Now he has no Rickon and no army beside what Baelish brought. And 61 men from Lady Mormont.

Okay, the point about the actors looking older makes sense. Btw, why did Margary give her Grandma that slip of paper? Total conjecture on my part, but I think it was letting here grandmother know that she's ok and not completely brainwashed. That she's just playing along and still trying to save herself and her brother. I don't think she could have openly stated anything but what the sparrows wanted to hear.

+1 That was my feeling as well when I first watched that scene.

It's the only reason Orenna leaves the capital in the first place. She was going to stay and fight if she thought she was their only hope. Finding that her granddaughter was just playing another role, as she had done her entire life (and was arguably better at pretending to be someone else than anyone else on the series until Arya got taught), gave her the confidence to do as Margaery asked and go.
She saved her life, although she didn't know it at the time, but certainly suspected it was getting too dangerous. Orenna speaks her mind openly without reservation, and in that climate she was at risk from both Cersei and the sparrows.

Seems like a few epic large scale battles will be coming this season.
I'm not surprised by that at all when you consider that we now have Dorn, the Starks and Danerys all arrayed against the Lannisters and of course we have the White Walkers who will be fighting everyone else.

Loved the scene in the "map room". And, a stone throne?

Took a break since the Red Wedding.
Why is that? Did you get bored with the show?
