What were they thinking?

There was only 16 squadrons of RAF fighters that used 100 octane during the BoB.
The Fw190A could not fly with the outer cannon removed.
There was no Fw190A-8s flying with the JGs in 1945.

Maybe the firefighters knew there would be no scheduled passing train in that location for a good while?

I think those will most lik;ey derail the train or train wheels not being car tires it will split the hose anyhow

You'd think they could simply leave the ballast from between the ties on either side of the road and just run the hose underneath the rails.
