May he rest in peace. Soundgarden was the very first grounge band that I started listening way before Nirvana and Mudhoney. This was their first track that got me hooked ever since:

RIP
Very sad to hear about his untimely death.

Something tells me that his death was not due to natural causes.

Didn't much like Soundgarden, but he did perform one of the best, if not THE best Bond theme with You Know My Name for Casino Royale. Hope he didn't shorten his own life, but it could always be natural. Apparently it was after a concert, but could be anything.

That's a fantastic song indeed and one of the best for a Bond film ever.

Some controversy, he kept "You Know My Name" off the official "Casino Royal" soundtrack, you have to buy it separately (I like the song, just wanted the title track anyway).
Wasn't a hardcore Soundgarden fan but “A-Sides” (Hits) is good from start to finish, a go-to CD in my collection.
Was also in Temple of the Dog. (I'm too slow)

.
Same here. As with most bands, I just really like their big hit songs. Soundgarden had many of those though!

One of the most distinctive voices going, what a loss. I was completely blindsided by that this AM.
I remember being in my early 20s in Vancouver and having them come north to play and not getting why people were falling over to see them.. until I heard them. I always liked Nirvana and AiC, but preferred Soundgarden and PJ. The intervews I've seen with him, especially the past 10 years, always made me think he was super grounded. Such a god damn waste and so sad. Hope he's in some sort of peace whatever his demons were.

Suicide can be such an elusive and mysterious thing to try and understand. For someone to put on such a great show like that and then to end their own life just a couple of hours later is just mind-boggling to me.

Chris Cornell's widow says he was prescribed Ativan, which is used for seizures or anxiety...but a side effect is paranoia or suicidal thoughts, and can affect judgement. She also said he told her he may have taken one or two more than he should have which made it worse.

Using statistics shows over 90% of people committing suicides suffered depressive episodes before their death. And clinically depressed people have a mortality rate of 15% - by suicide.

But having this triggered by outside factors is plain evil.

Ativan withdrawal is a rougher thing than opiate withdrawal. Maybe he was having trouble with that. Long term use of any benzo can be very dangerous. Benzo abuse (Xanax,Valium, Ativan) doesn't get the attention in the media it needs. Mix in a little alcohol, and you have a very bad recipe for disaster.

Taking an extra Ativan isn't going to make him hang himself in the hotel bathroom. What she's really doing is trying to get the medical examiner to change the cause of death to 'accident' instead of suicide, so she can collect on the life insurance policy, which she can't do if his death is ruled a suicide.

She originally neglected to mention anything about slurred speech or his saying he might have taken an extra one or two Ativan. All she said was that he sounded fine and did not sound depressed or suicidal. Then, after the coroner ruled it a suicide her story changed.
Never really got into soundgarden but thier song 'jesus christ pose' is one of my favourites, deffo in my all time top 10 song list. Absolutely incredible track, crushing and bleak. Wish they wrote a few more like that.
