I have been playing various versions of this for a month and a half now. I play Silent Hunter 4 with the TMO mod installed. I have to say my favorite sub sims have something that I find missing from the science fiction simulators I like. Immersion. Atmosphere. Even in Star Trek: Bridge Commander there is no using the sensors to determine what type of ship that contact is (they did this by warp signature in the serieses), no messing with the photon torpedo settings, and no planning the perfect attack. Developers of science fiction based simulators could learn a lot from games like Silent Hunter and Dangerous Waters. I guess I will just go on pretending I am the captain of a Defiant class ship, cloaked and watching those fat Cardassian freighters close to optimum attack range.

If you have a VR headset you could try the Star Trek Bridge Crew game? Its due for release 30th May. Seems to fill the "immersion" gap according to some reviews.

Looks interesting. I wonder how they are going to deal with CBS and Paramount essentially abandoning the Kelvin timeline. Sadly I would want singleplayer as well. Also we all know Ubisoft's track record with games like this. For example, their Silent Hunter games pretty much require mods to run and to be challenging.
