Yup, it looks fricking fantastic. I'll be seeing this on opening weekend! I just wish it was sooner than October.

Yeah, so I am officially hyped now.

Gosling is an inspired choice. The sounds all took me back to the original. Cinematography looked incredible.

Release day watch for sure.

Kind of sounds like they're going right into the "am I a replicant" thing with the bit about how he's "special". Doesn't have the subtle draw that the original movie had over that question that keeps people talking about it 35 years later.
I hope this isn't another kill off Han Solo movie too. If so, what's next, kill Indy? LOL
Not the biggest fan of Jared Leto, but it does look awesome. Surely a day 1 at the theater kind of movie.

Agree with you here. It is very often a good thing to leave some things unanswered and to allow the audience to contemplate and theorize on some aspects of the story.

If this decade has taught me anything, it is to be super-skeptical about upcoming films with fancy trailers full of "things I know", especially those basking in the past glory of films considered to be "classics".

So, unlike with TFA, this time I again have zero expectations.

If it sucks, I can still be in the "told you so camp"; if it's great, I was always convinced that the sequel will be great. smile

Right on, Jayhawk.

Learned my lesson with Ghost in the Shell.

The early trailers made it look great (which it does, really) and except for ScarJo...which always seemed out of place to me, it looked like it was going to be a great adaptation.

Trailers say nothing about the story (and they shouldn't), and the movie will still be subjected to heavy editing and changes (like Rogue One, where most scenes in the early trailers are not even in the movie), so a lot of studio meddling can happen in between now and release day.

Trailers are like people on a first date. They reveal their idealized version of themselves but after a while, their true nature is revealed after some digging. wink

The very basic purpose of a film trailer is to deceive. To deceive you into buying a movie ticket without really knowing what the film will really be like until you watch it.

Well, in my case, they are failing. smile

I don't believe a trailer's purpose is to deceive per se. It's, as you wrote, to make a potential customer buy a ticket. Deception is only necessary if the end product is not very good, in which case the trailer is bordering on false advertising (Rogue One, for example). A good movie/trailer combo would be as in: "if you like this, watch the film, because you'll get more of that". yep

Lately, with the current trend of (soft) rebooting old movie franchises which were either very successful and/ or have a cult following, it seems trailers have taken a page from search engine marketing by focusing on certain, iconic "key elements" (just like keywords in SEM) to create visual familiarity and thereby an emotional connection. Unfortunately, Hollywood's marketing boards often seem to completely miss the point why a certain franchise was so successful in the past, or had a strong cult following.

This Blade Runner trailer is basically a string of - forced - recognizable items/ images/ themes from the original film: Han "Indy" Deckard, the iconic Blade Runner gun, Spinner, Atari commercial, Tyrell Pyramid, Vangelis theme, lighting (comically overdone as if on steroids)....in this case, the trailer does not compel me to buy a ticket, quite the contrary: it clearly tells me to wait for professional and audience reviews. smile

So far, it can go either way: the film does actually feature a good script that manages, against all odds, to really make this a good sequel, and the external agency responsible for the trailer merely followed the current "trailer trend". Or, the film has little to no substance, so marketing was desperately banking on presenting "style".

It is stylish, but I am worried about the plot. It needs to excel at both.

I'd rather just see the movie without reading the reviews, they are also unreliable and in fact rarely line up with how I perceive any movie. I remember when the original Blade Runner came out, no-one liked it, it was almost universally panned. Of course, you can 't find a reviewer today who will admit to not loving it immediately smile I also don't wish to see any kind of spoiler no matter how mild.

Some films are simply WAY ahead of their time upon initial release and are thus not appreciated by audiences until much later. Blade Runner is one of those films.

I'm not sure if the original footage is actually just a trailer but I still found it an interesting comparison:

"Agent K"? Really? Is this some sort of crossover with the MiB universe? smile

Maybe Deckard now drives a POS Ford instead of a spinner?

He now drives a large truck, and tractor beams Agent K's spinner (which used to belong to Deckard) into his trailer.

I've also obtained a LEAKED line of dialogue from the film.

Deckard: "The crazy thing is, it's true; the Tyrell Corporation. The Replicants. All of it. It's all true."
