Hello everyone....I have gotten on a bit of a tripe kick lately. I have scoured the internet for info concerning whether or not the Sopwith Triplane ever dueled with the Fokker Dr.1...perhaps there may have been one or two very inconclusive encounters between the two aeroplanes, and I will leave that one up to those who know more then me wink

...but, I have been looking at the other end of things. Did the Tripe ever engage any Fokker Eindeckers?

Looking at our very own WOFF:UE, One can fly the Tripe at a "high rank" as early as November 9, 1916 with RNAS-1, and with "middle rank" as early as December 26, 1916 both from Furnes. Meanwhile, MFJ I has E.IIIs for "lowest rank" until January 31, 1917 at Nieuwmunster just across the lines from Furnes and SK Sachsenberg also has E.IIIs for "lowest rank" until January 31, 1917 at Ghistelles even a bit closer to Furnes!

I have somewhat scoured the internet looking for possible scrapes between the two and have found none. Any insights?

Thanks in advance,

Jeff

I doubt these two ever met in combat.
The first Eindeckers entered service in mid-1915, the last versions of the Eindecker being phased out during August-September 1916.
The Sopwith Triplane didn't enter service with No.1 Squadron, RNAS, until the December 1916 and they didn't really see action until February 1917.
I imagine the Eindecker had been superceded by newer types long before the Tripe had its day.

It is theoretically possible. All Fokkers of all flavours were grounded by Idflieg and withdrawn from front line service the first week of December. There was still the odd Eindekker on the books at that time. That being said, I've never heard of an encounter between the two

We will remember them.

You've probably never heard of it because the Eindecker pilot was dead and the Sopwith pilot was too embarrassed to tell anyone about it! hahaha

The older I get, the more I realize I don't need to be Han, Luke or Leia. I'm just happy to be rebel scum...
