I'm curious: There are conflicting claims going around stating that the warhead fragments are identifiable to either a Russian (presumably gifts to the rebels) or Ukrainian BUK.

Can the warhead fragments actually be linked to a particular generation of BUK and can this be used to identify the which country's arsenal the missile came from?

*edit* Okay, I take it that the inner lining with the bow-tie fragments means that the warhead was a 9N314M, and that these were never issued to the Ukraine? Suggesting that the launcher came from inside the Russian Federation:

There is also something I am not clear about in this:

Now I have read the the BUK-M2 is a mach 4 missile with 15 seconds of burn time.
Unless it has an big amount of drag, with those parameters I see no reason it should not able to kill something at 45-50 Km away from the BUK.
Am I therefore correct in assuming that the above picture is not an engagement envelope, but a kill envelope, and that a missile can be fired at say 60+ KM range if it has a high closing rate? (and the hit will then occur downrange at 45-50KM)
If that is the case, do anyone know the distance a 9M317 would max be fired at?

No.... Those are killing zones against different type of targets
