Recently bought Steel Division: Normandy '44 and got a chance to actually sit down and play my first game. As an avid fan of the "Wargame" franchise I had a good idea of what to expect out of the games mechanics etc. This video is of my very first game and some initial thoughts about it. Thanks for watching!
I've seen it, really nice one! I was on the fence about this one since i'am not a fan of Wargame franchise but love WWII era wargames. Although it looks really good, the gameplay still relies to much on fast clicking rather than planning. A shame.
Don't know about this one but the last Wargame game you can slow down time to real slow so that you have time to think about your movies. For the earlier games you can use Cheat Engine to slow down time too.

You shouldn't need that, as the game speed can be scaled right down to what they are calling "bullet time" which allows the pace to be slowed almost to a standstill. You also have very slow, slow, normal, etc.

That is not really the case with this game or (Wargame) at the higher levels of play. The good players who have taken the time to build their force rosters (decks) know how and when to use certain units. There is a lot of tactical planning that takes place before the first engagement even kicks off. One of the most underrated "Wargame" now "Steel Division" players of there is Russo DiNero. Watch the video below to get a good idea of what you can do when you actually sit down and think the engagement through. He doesn't spam units like a lot of other players, he is very meticulous with how he spends his points. He chooses where the battles will be fought and won by good tactical planning before and during the entire match.

I said the earlier versions. The first two Wargame games you can not slow down time. That was introduced in the 3rd release. With Cheat Engine you can slow down time in the first 2 games too.
Is there a campaign for this? That linked video (Russo) is vs. a human player, right?
Yes there will be a SP Campaign. Right now only Skirmish vs AI or against other players is available in the "Pre-Release" Full game releases mid May. And yes that was against another player.

When you began your sentence with "Don't know about this one..." I was simply trying to be helpful and explain that this game wouldn't need that to slow things down as opposed to the earlier games you were familiar with, sorry for trying to help, I think I misunderstood what you were getting at.
Really itching to pull the trigger on this. Really enjoyed the Wargame series even if I've only really played EE... the rest are on the bucket list. But this looks like a faster-paced Combat Mission...

If you enjoyed the "Wargame" style gameplay and like WWII then I am confident in saying that you would probably really like this game a lot. It's a a definite "thumbs up" from me!
Hey, GunDoc... is there a way to lock on to a unit and/or at least set cameras up to jump to... I'm finding myself having to manual move the camera all over to find the battle I want. thx.

Thanks for more info. That match was indeed slower but still it's RTS. Tons of micro which i don't like. I think i'd have more fun watching others play this game than playing it myself.
Just won my first game... Major victory against a Medium AI. Tons of fun and I'm learning when/how to push back. I slow down to bullet time (THANK YOU!!!!!) during deployment phase and spend most of my time on Slow or Very Slow.
