I befuddled. Maybe I'm an imbecile, but for the life of me, I can't figure out how to use the compass in the Spitfire and the Hurricane. They never seem to be pointing in the right direction, so I'm forced to use the map with icons on it to figure out which way I'm facing. These gauges make no sense!

I don't have this issue in any other sim, but this one... it's as if they are fubar. I am using the latest ATAG patch, btw. Anyone have any tips?

Internet
British planes has 2 instruments, the P-8 Compass - horizontal mounted behind control column, almost impossible to read in CloD due:

- Lack of shortcut "glance at compass" - like is possible in IL-2 BoS or DCS Spit Mk. IXe.
- Lack of "Lubber Line" in compass 3D (even in DCS Spit this is not done correct, but there was a "workaround").

And the Directional Gyro (DG or DI) in middle of cockpit, that is more easy to see/read, but this instrument is "dumb" and always spawn out of order, so is need calibrate then with P-8 Compass information.

Is possible ignore DG calibration - since this instrument became un-calibrated after high G maneuvers, and need in flight calibration - and read directions in P-8, but since this is a naval instrument (why is mounted in horizontal) is need read the compass needle (+) mirrored. smile

All you need understand and do is well explained there:

BTW - Using Virtual Cockpit can set P-8 compass in second monitor or Windows tablet, what help in see then, as is required lot of mouse (or TrackIR) "contortionism" to make then reasonable visible.

See in this Nail video: https://vimeo.com/211004175

And remember that 1940 magnetic deviation for Chanel area is modeled in CloD ( around 8º), case go do long flights. wink

This video also shows u how to do it in game:

I was ajusting Directional Gyro at begining always in my hurricane when playing online, but like Sokol says after high G manuvers your Directional Gyro gets stuck and you have to adjust it again in air after DF, and thats not easy to do without practice

So after some time i just dont bather with it any more, if u know from where u took off and usealy where u are on map, and u know that on minimap N is always UP , its not hard to know where u need to go when some one says to you go east or im on 120deg from you, or if u get thouse 7-1 radar messages on online servers, it just takes more practice and its mutch faster then adjusting that DG or trying to read it from P-8 during flight.
