What time do you usually fly, Oden? DBond's time is a bit too late for me.

He flies when the Floggers blot out the sun biggrin

For what it is worth, I am off from work on Tuesdays. So I can probably get a flight in with my Euro-brothers then. Depends on what I have to accomplish that day, but for example yesterday I flew one right after Oden restarted the server. Once the kid is out of school in the summer that will change most likely. But for the next two months I can get some Euro-friendly hops in on most Tuesdays, even if it's just one flight.

What we need is to have guys announce ahead of time when they will be on. The further in advance, the more likely they will not fly alone. Of course sometimes it's spur of the moment, but even a 'hopping on now for a bit' does some good.

OK Mac, see you later this week.

Money where my proverbial mouth is.... I'll be on about 7 EDT. Gotta clear the way for our ground pounders.

Usually a random start between 18:00 and 21:00 Sveedenland Time, should be 17 to 20 Britland right?
I'll pop a note in here about an hour before my start tonight - had to go to office today (and pick up the easter egg!) so I would assume closer to my 20:00 will be todays start.

I hopped on last night but didn't have a very good go of it. I spent most of my time examining the map, and fragging missions to help snuff out the Reds on the ground. The A-10s are down to six airframes so I mostly used F-15E.

I was mistaken evidently about China actually joining the war. I saw the big yellow spike in aircraft force level on day 2 and assumed they were in. But they aren't flying combat missions as far as I can tell. Soon.

My first mission was an AI with GBU. There were Red aircraft all over and very little defensive air aside from what I had put up. I joined the 120th out of Seosan for the evening. As I approached the target I saw it was well-capped by MiG-29s and MiG-23s. I tried to punch a hole with -120s and managed to shoot down one of each, but was myself shot down and killed by MiG-29s. I was running in full burner but they were too and caught me. Went back to the map and played general for a while then fragged a BARCAP. The wait in the pie screen was very long and when I finally spawned I exploded. Not sure what happened, maybe two planes spawned the same spot? That was it for the evening.

Things are going fairly well overall for our campaign, but Red air is still strong. Since it was the middle of the night I decided to send in a few waves of stealth aircraft to strike some of their deep airbases, but then remembered we have no stealth aircraft. I really should have edited the planeset. We have a very limited assortment at our disposal and could really use a F-15C squadron.

Is there any way to run a campaign as a pilot or do I really have to be doing these stuff and fragging flights?

If you just want to choose a mission and go it's no problem. Just join any squadron other than the 36th at Osan.

And a quick primer for changing squadrons after you've committed to the campaign....

Click OoB and enable both the US and South Korea by selecting their 'flags' at the top. Drill down in Air Forces and drill down on the airfield by clicking the + sign next to it. Right click on any squadron and choose status to have a look at them, and then choose join to get in to that squadron and see what they have fragged. So you could fairly quickly check several squadrons and join one that has a suitable mission that takes off soon.

The main issue is that with the server in the 3D is we lost the ability ability to pause or accelerate the clock. No acceleration when you commit. The nice thing about fragging a mission is you can make it happen soon. Fragging is easy, it really is. Try it at least once and you'll be hooked I promise smile

Sorry, do you mean our campaign or any campaign including offline? Yes it's possible to play without fragging a single mission or making any changes to sliders and PAKs. But how effective it would be is another matter.

Both. I know what you're saying.... I usually examine my flights and adjust my ordnance and route to better fit the threat environment, maybe frag a flight or two to "clear the way" of future flights, but you guys are taking it to the other end of the spectrum by fragging F-15s and A-10s.

Yes, no need to do the stuff I am doing, although every bit helps. It seems every time I join, the Red aircraft are roaming around behind the lines and Red troops have advanced down one of the road networks and well, I just cannot permit that dammit. So the strategy gamer in me emerges and I get down to brass tacks, fragging Strike Eagles, 'Hogs, F-5s whatever, to stop the Red Menace.

But no need for anyone else to do it. That said, I would love to have a doppleganger in the Euro crew who was doing the same things. A protege if you will biggrin

I sense a kindred Swedish soul in Oden though. I do believe I am converting him lol

How do you guys celebrate Easter? The reason I ask is I had an idea. Yes yes, stop the presses. But hear me out...

So my son will be with the ex Sunday (we alternate major holidays) leaving me free. I imagine everyone will be slouched on the couch drunk with their relatives (you say that's not how you celebrate Easter?). So let's just say we announced now that we are scheduling a SimHQ alpha strike for Sunday? Who might attend?

Here's my idea. Sometime on Saturday Oden saves the campaign and sends me the file. I do my voodoo amid several pounds of dry ice for the dramatic evil scientist effect, and frag out a big strike package on an airfield way behind enemy lines. Strikers, escort, SEAD, the works. Since it's saved we can actually announce a step time so everyone can co-ordinate and get in and set up before the server is restarted.

Each flight could be human led, and depending on how many join up more than the lead slots could be filled.

Is anyone both interested and available? This could be a memorable experience thumbsup

If there is any interest I will flesh it out further, down to allowing each guy to choose role and maybe aircraft type.

I may not be able to fly tonight, Oden frown
Also out on Sunday evening.... I'll be back at work tomorrow evening and on nights for 3 nights. I can't believe my holiday just got used up fixing this damned PC.

Hell yeah, I'm in for a Sunday Mayhem.

Just flew a few strikes.

Sharing Osan with the Warthogs I noticed they taxi slow (or is it me always bing in a hurry?)

[Linked Image]

(but it is pretty awesome having them around)

First I headed for one of their Power Plants but I seemed to miss both my JDAM's (how is that possible!?)

Event DPRK MiG-19SF downed by theOden at 20:44:24
Event DPRK Main Plant destroyed by Cowboy22 at 20:48:55
Event DPRK MiG-21MF downed by theOden at 20:50:43
Event DPRK MiG-21MF downed by Cowboy22 at 20:51:47

After this there was this SA-5 that cought my eyes, up at Koksan Airbase.
This time my wingman with the HARM's just vanished, no idea where he went (just crashed according to debrief.txt).

Event Cowboy12 crashed at 21:31:12
Event DPRK KrAz T 255B destroyed by theOden at 21:37:47
Event DPRK ZIL-135 destroyed by theOden at 21:37:47
Event DPRK Barlock-B destroyed by theOden at 21:37:47
Event DPRK SA-5 destroyed by theOden at 21:39:19
Event DPRK SA-5 destroyed by theOden at 21:41:22
Event DPRK SA-5 destroyed by theOden at 21:42:53

But I served them my 4x CBU-87's and got the Barlock along with 3 of the launchers.

The area wasn't really intense AAA wise so I planned to go back for an OCA strike next but suddenly someone "Falco" showed up!
Great fun to have another Euro-pilot smile

He had a look at Koksan in the OOB and we realized they only had 3 airframes left in there, 3 different types too so we decided it was not worth the effort to close that runway.

Instead we went for 2 depots, steerpoint 5 and 6 and loaded up 2xHARM and 2xMk84 for the party.

As we closed in to stp2 I had this 29 on the RWR but also at least 1 F16 in between I held my missile short.

Believe it or not that 29 went straight through the 16's right into my face and soon my plane was all silent.

Tried to sail back to alternate but lost too much energy and had to bail out.

According to Falco he managed to kill both depots anyhow!

Good overall results.

Awesome, and great to have a new pilot join up.

OK Oden, so far it's you and me. That's all we need to do this, although clearly the more pilots, the better. If you were offered escort, SEAD or strike which would you choose? Should I start a new thread just for this mission? Maybe that would get some attention.

I want to start wrapping my noggin around this so if anyone wants to join us answer sooner than later.

Strike of SEAD for me.

A new thread is a good idea, or it will get lost in debriefs in here.

Hunting two FROG-7 battalions.

No great success but I made it home (for once!) but landing is not to take lightly now smile
Let's play: Find the FPM:

[Linked Image]

Now the thunderstorm also serve us free rain

[Linked Image]

I had one moving battalion on stp 3 and a static one on stp 4 and I just couldn't get a good approach and when I did, the bombs would not release.

Only one Frog down frown

[Linked Image]

When exiting I noticed this blue engineer battalion up north - I think they try to invade China all by themselves?

I didn't have time to fly much last night, but I joined the server and went about my business, checking it every now and then and playing general as I am known to do. Things are going well. Blue is on the offensive. I did a bit of a number on the Red's front line troops especially around Kaesong and Wangdang-dong (yes that's what it's called :D)

Our carrier group has arrived. I am curious how long it may live. New -52 and -32 squadrons have arrived, and there are now four Viper squadrons based at Choongwon.

I did attempt to fly twice. The first was a BARCAP with HARMS, which I will henceforth refer to as a HARMCAP for simplicity's sake, in the hills west of Wonsan. We got jumped by MiGs. after we had got the missiles off. I shot down one and then had to run from the missiles of his wingman. I successfully dragged it only to be shot down by a SA-14 crossing back over the FLOT.

Wonsan is a SAM trap of the first order. I pre-planned all the SAMs still having radars in the area and the rings are crazy. That area will need some attention to clear the way for the AI.

I played general for a while then fragged a pre-plan CAS on a towed artillery battalion. They were stationary, full strength and deployed in a perfect north-south line that would have been perfect for a string of CBU.

So I fragged it up with CBU-58. In the briefing I saw it noted that there were two Stinger squads south of Bingbangbong or somesuch. Didn't know where that was and had a quick look but saw no Stinger Squads. Everything went smoothly until I turned at the IP to start my run. I was slewing the cursors on to the returns when WHAM! and I ejected. I must have overflown Bingbangbong biggrin
