...lets me load a script which includes the theare and planeset in addition to the mission settings:

[Linked Image]

If I elect to load and fly it is loaded instantaneously, the exe is launched and after hitting Enter and the spacebar twice I am flying a single mission smile

When I exit I can choose another theatre and be flying a completely different mission in seconds.
This is all running in my UAW150V4 folder, upgraded to 160. Currently I am developing the script library wink

OK. I am preparing a release of three different exes in old and new map versions, and essential files and utilities.

[Linked Image]
It is quite complex so I will start with the easiest to explain.

The V32 exes are standard 160 exes with bigger load and save menus for the "*.MSN" files
Longer descriptions can be written.
[Linked Image]
[Linked Image]
To avoid a clash with previous versions the V32 exe has been modified to use "V32Fileload.mnu" and "V32Filesave.mnu" instead of "Fileload.mnu" and "Filesave.mnu" .
These new files need to be added to the "GameData" folder and will be included in the patch.
The first patch will be released shortly. It will just have the V32 exes and a full patch for "GameData".

Players with a "UAW150V4 " folder that has not been upgraded to 160 can still use the patch, but before they run it they must copy their "savedata" folder and re-name the copy as "GameData" so that their "UAW150V4 " folder contains both "savedata" and "GameData".
The patch will overwrite some files in "GameData" and add spme new ones. To make life simpler it will include files that the other two new exes will need.
The patch is now available.

As the 150 folder is getting cluttered I have created a "160Special" folder at MediaFire
This is the link to it

160Special folder

In it there is a "160SpecPatchV32.exe" 7-zip to be run in your "UAW150V4" folder.

The other two exes are the latest versions of the "few screens" systems I have been discussing in recent threads.
Both rely on the use of editors
One is based on "*.msn" files, and the other on the multiplayer system where a file containing a number of [NETWORK] entries for the "eaw.ini" file is read, and the "eaw.ini" file modified accordingly.
The editors can both create files, save files, edit files, load files, load the appropriate "dir.set", "PDir.set" and "FMDir.set" files and launch the game wink

The both create maps from which bases and the target are selected, and this requires the presence of certain files in the root of the selected theatre folder.
They are summed up on this screen:
[Linked Image]
The "OK load the data" button does not show there is not a complete set of files in the root folder of the theatre.

This creates problems that the user needs to solve.
Some theatres are based on default ETO, and use the EAW default files in "GameData". If this is the case the missing files need to be copied from "GameData" and pasted into the theatre folder.
Other theatres such as SPAW use sub-folders, and the missing files are in them. It is a matter of searching for them, copying them and pasting the copy into the theatre folder.

I am posting this so that people can prepare their "UAW150V4" folder in readiness for the other two exes and their editors.

V33
There is now a "160SpecPatchV33.exe" whch installs the V33 exes, the editor, the "MSNfiles" folder and the "PSM160MSN.exe" filemanager.
I have done this second because it is possible to try this exe without using its editor. I will post a tutorial about using the editor later.

The key to this simple test is the "PSM160MSN.exe" filemanager.
Here I have selected the default ETO theatre and the default ETO planeset
[Linked Image]
Then I clicked the "Show the MSN manager" button (which is a new addition to the previous PSM160 manager.

It shows a few folders and in view of what is loaded I selected "ETO Default"
[Linked Image]
This utility is a re-hash of something I was using for JIM hence it's title. I will fix that later smile

There was only one file available in this test set-up" so I selected it and loaded it.
[Linked Image]

Having doe that I launched EAW
There were a couple of rapid screen flashes, then the usual loading screen and then I was on the runway
[Linked Image]

You can see why I used that name LOL.
A minor bug in the V33 exe to be aware of- which I will fix:
When you exit the game and see the de-briefing screen then you need to click the OK button to exit.
In other exes you can press "Esc" but at the moment with V33 "Esc" will re-start the game.
Alt-Q will exit perfectly.

Just a note that in the first of those two yellow pictures you can see a "MyFile.msn" file in the root of the "MSNfiles" folder.
When I selected the "Big colour test.msn" file to use it was copied from the "ETO Default" folder and pasted as "MyFile.msn" .
This what the system hinges on. The V33 exes are programmed to read this for their data.

Taking a break now, to give people chance to download and to get their heads around this.
I will be posting the third patch soon, but without explanation until I get some feedback from users of V33.
The third patch is there now as "160SpecPatchMPV12.exe"
I will see if I can set up something simple for the first time user.

wink

Here's how to get going with the third exe

Run the "MPU160V10.exe"
[Linked Image]
Do not worry about editing, but select one of the 160MPV12 exes from the bottom right panel.

Then click the "Show the Load/Save panel" button to get this screen:
[Linked Image]
For safety's sake pick the same folder and file as me

Then click the "Load and fly this script" button

You should see this, and when you do hit "Enter"
[Linked Image]
The parameters screen will appear, press the spacebar.
Then the briefing screen will appear, press the spacebar again

Then the usual loading (map) screen will appear and you will be flying in seconds
[Linked Image]

So far we have not used any of the editors for editing or creating new things. That is the next level once you know the exes are working smile

The MSN editor is not too hard to use smile

[Linked Image]

The key thing is to have those critical files ("targets.dat", "airfield.dat", "frntline.dat", "tarnames.str" and "eaw32.tm") in the theatre folder before you use it

wink

Ok, that's the how.

Now explain the why.

I say that because it seems some of this new programming, or maybe all of it, is purely for online play. If that's the case there are a lot of people who don't need to dig into these complexities for something they don't use.

Like me.

It is not for online play at all.
EAW uses "*.msn" files and always has done. They were saved in savedata every time you flew a mission, and used as a basis for the settings when you flew the next mission in the same plane., but in 160 they are saved in the planeslot folder for your selected plane in the "GameData" folder of the current theatre.
It has always been possible to save and load them. Moggy will be making extensive use of them in Dunkirk.

So the V32 exe has a bigger and better saving and loading facility.

The other two exes are different ways by which a player with a bad 8 bit screen problem can fly single missions with a minimum of screens, using keypresses to move from one screen to the next, because the settings made in an external editor are already loaded.
One uses the multiplayer parameters, but is not a multiplayer mission. It is the same as the "host only" multiplayer game.
The other (V33) uses *.msn files.
Both have different values
The msn system only has the player's homebase, the multiplayer system has four- the friendly primary friendly secondary, enemy primary and enemy secondary bases
The msn system has four altitudes for the friendly primary friendly secondary, enemy primary and enemy secondary planes, multiplayer has just one, used by all.
So a user with both systems has a choice.

wink

Ok, so the only thing a player that isn't having graphics issues needs to do is D/L V32, copy and rename the savedata folder and then do the install.

Is that correct?

Are you saying that one of these special exec's gets around the graphics issues that we've previously needed the Windower program for?

V32 is a normal exec with improved load and save menus.
The other two types load data set up externally and use a minimum of screens
V33 flips through two screens to the loading screen (map / fuel dial) and requires no input from the player other than the normal single mission exit
The multiplayer based version requires the user to hit enter, then the spacebar, and the spacebar again. The loading screen appears and the mission starts.
It makes no difference if the screens are good or bad, it is the key-presses that matter.

Still have a question.

With V32 it seems we need to copy and paste the entire savedata folder and rename it gamedata. Is that correct?

Edit:

The reason I'm asking is that my savedata folder has 6000+ files and takes up 133MB of disk space.

Heck, even paranoids have enemies.

When you made your new weapons set I set up a 160 patch, with the instructions telling users to do exactly that. Copy "savedata" and rename the copy "GameData".
Running the patch at that time added your new weapons files to "GameData". I have now added the special files these new exes need in "GameData" to the original patch, so that people who have not done the 160 upgrade are still covered.:)
