I understand and it makes sense to have a gamedata folder rather than put a ton of files into the savedata folder which was not the original reason for the savedata folder.

But is it necessary to copy all of savedata to gamedata?

With no CDFs savedata was used for the default files, that is why it has so many files in it.
Your original 150 weapons files were put into it as the new default weapons files.
When a planeset is selected the "PDir.set" and "FMDir.set" files are copied into savedata and read from there by the exe.
When you made the new weapons files they would have overwritten the 150 ones.
To avoid any potential problems that this might cause I came up with the 160 concept where a GameData folder is used in place of savedata.
So it needs to contain the default files, hence the need to copy savedata and rename it.

Seems wrong to have two folders with 6000+ files that are nearly identical.

In addition to adding some new weapons you replaced some
[Linked Image]

It is impossible to check all the loadouts, so what happens if the 150 weapons files were overwritten by the 160 files, but a loadout references a slot that has been completely changed?

That's why I made 160 and GameData to avoid potential conflicts resulting from your decision.

You are not getting my point.

Is it necessary to have 6000+ files in two folders that are identical except for the few files that are different?

Surely the vast majority of these files don't need to be in two places.

160 was released last year for the sole purpose of making your new weapons files available. Why did you not raise this issue at the time?
If other people indicate that the "savedata/GameData" system is a problem I will produce an alternative wink

I just tested the alternative and it works.
I made a new version of the latest 160 exe (with the reduced ini file) which now looks for and reads "150weapons.dat", "150weaponsstr" and "150hrdpoint.dat" files in the "GameData" folder.
The "weapons.dat", "weaponsstr" and "hrdpoint.dat" files from the "savedata" folder were copied, renamed as "150weapons.dat", "150weaponsstr" and "150hrdpoint.dat" , and put in the "GameData" folder.
Savedata is redundant. smile

I would have but it didn't occur to me that the new system required a redundant file system with 6000+ nearly identical files. As you should know by now, once one of my projects is incorporated I move on to another. What happens is that I get detached from the development process so I lose track of what's going on and then at some point I have to play catch up.

I'm simply trying to help streamline the functionality of your system and it seems rather odd to have two gigantic folders with redundant files.

Is it such a sin to point this out?

So, no savedata folder at all or the extra 6000+ files that have resided there are now in Gamedata and the Savedata folder returns to it's original use?
