Welcome to the art of taxiing and flying the only taildragger in DCS with unlockable and unsteerable tailwheel, which makes it completely different beast compared to P-51 you're already famililar with. What hardware do You use for rudder and brakes control? You'll use both a lot, much more often than in the Mustang, also with more precision required.

For a good start, remember to keep the stick back when needed to have at least a little bit of tailwheel centering effect. Also, for takeoffs remember to use right rudder trim, preferably full, though some guys use only some of it. Don't use full throttle, 8 lbs of boost is plenty enough. Watch some yt clips - that one is not bad at all, with controls indicator visible and some good tips in it:

I remember crashing on takeoff in the original Il-2 demo in 2001, and then when the game came out, and in most WWII sims since.

Bottom line is tail draggers take practice to takeoff and taxi. Real pilots had practice on trainers before they got to the big time and had smooth throttle movements compensated by stick and rudder drilled into them on fear of death. smile

Pete, X-52 is not the greatest tool for the job to put it mildly (because of short twist movement range, amongst other things), but after setting up some curves (20-25% at least), You might be able to try taming the Spit. Also, remember there's always adjustable auto-rudder feature in special options. No shame in using it when crappy controller makes flying "full manual" too difficult.
