My friend has an editing studio, designed for playback of recordings, mastering and editing for recording to CD and other formats for commercial release. Some of the stuff he does is released in Dolby Atmos format, so it's a serious bit of kit, with sound insulation, baffles, and a sublime stereo sweet spot.
Now the dilemma: he has very kindly offered this awesome space for personal use. Basically I can take a CD, sit on the sofa in the sweet spot and listen to some audio bliss.
What to choose? A modern recording that has all the benefits of production tech? A studio or live classic?
My shortlist: Radiohead - OK Computer Pink Floyd - The Wall Iron Maiden - Powerslave Muse - Black Holes and Revelations Tubeway Army - Tubeway Army Ultravox - Vienna Mozart - Requiem Sisters of Mercy - First and Last and Always
This isn't necessarily about your favorite album, but those that benefit from actually being *listened to*
edit: I would have included Wagner's Ring Cycle (von Karajan) but it's an hour-long slot.

Has to be live. It would be like you are there. Not sure with regards to you picks but to each their own. There is so much to listen too
I would love to hear the Gladiator soundtrack in that environment plus a whole raft of song by The Who, plus an inordinate number of Opera Arias O Mio Babbino Caro from Madame Butterfly sung by Maria Callas is just Beautiful. I would love to have the opportunity to hear that. Then there is ELO would LOVE to hear some of that in a perfect environment. The List grows Simply Red ELVIS the Beatles (maybe) Handel's Messiah
The list just goes on and on.
Enjoy your session mate. I am a bit jealous I have to admit but it is an excruciating choice, who and what do you leave out............

Good ideas, soupdragon. I had forgotten about ELO. Funny thing is that while most people might pick Out of the Blue, I'd be torn between Time and Eldorado. ELO was renowned for flakey live performances, so that's one band where we can stick to the studio albums

Close to the Edge or Going For the One, by Yes. Both just have BIG sounds that I think would benefit from an acoustically perfect environment. I think it's Rick Wakeman's church organ that does it, or maybe Steve Howe's pedal steel. Anyway, those 2 would be on my short list. Leftoverture by Kansas, Chicago Transit Authority (longer than an hour), The Cure's Disintegration, and Awake by Dream Theater, too.

Always getting good ideas by what I read here. Today I'm going to have an Alan Parson's Project marathon (albums I Robot, The Turn of a Friendly Card, Eye in the Sky, Ammonia Avenue) plus assorted singles from other albums on their Best of Vol.1 and 2.

No "Tales of Mystery and Imagination"? That's THE Alan Parsons Project album!

Never heard it, guess I didn't have it on 8-track (oldest being "I Robot" but missing some others). I'll get right on that, thanks!

Of the original selections by U-96, I would choose "The Wall" but I'm going to look into those others out of curiosity.

Still lurking about

Speaking of CTTE, here's the keyboardist for a prog metal band called Mile Marker Zero covering Rick's organ solo at the end of the "I Get Up, I Get Down" section.
And one of my favorite songs from their debut album.
