LINKIP are refusing to fly and rightfully so, seems we need to look at a different producer of our military O2 systems seeing the Cluster F with the Raptor as well... In the last five years, physiological episodes, caused in part by problems with the oxygen system, have nearly quadrupled on the T-45 training jet, according to Capitol Hill testimony last week by senior naval aviators.
The Navy is now looking at grounding the entire fleet of T-45s for the next few days, according to multiple pilots.
“There is no question that there are problems that are being covered up,” House Armed Services Committee Chairman Mac Thornberry, R-Texas, said. “I am very concerned about the issue. It’s been getting worse over time and if you look at the statistics, the older airplanes are having bigger problems than newer airplanes.”

Actually the Navy hasn't grounded the T-45. They're still flying with the IP's who will fly.
The actual situation, IMO, is worse than the Navy voluntarily grounding some jets. The Navy is being forced to take this problem seriously, after years of ignoring it, by pilots who refuse to fly.
So there are two problems: The OBOGS system and the Navy brass who have ignored it. To me, the later is even more serious than the former.

So, is the T45 O2 system different than that of the BAe Hawk in RAF service? I know the airplanes are not identical, but how much difference is there? It seems strange to me that there have been similar issues with the F22, T45 and also the F18 evidently.

What amazes me is this is something that planes have had for literally half a century now. What is the problem?
It's like Ford suddenly recalling millions of F-150s because the steering wheel keeps falling off.

That's what I was just thinking too Jedi and I agree. What the heck has changed in recent years that wasn't, generally speaking, a problem before??! Systems older + poor maintenance = problems.

I understand that completely but according to the article they've been fighting this for six years to get something done. The problem simply needs to get fixed and that obviously has not been done. because you have this attitude in Admirals: "I’ve been flying Navy airplanes since 1982 on oxygen," testified Manazir. "I commanded an F-14 squadron that had OBOGS back in 1998. I have two cruises on that system and I have four cruises on the Super Hornet. I’ve never experienced a hypoxic event." In other words: stop whining and fly.

I've been playing way too much Fallout.
I was wondering when the Navy got Power Armor.
The opinions of this poster are largely based on facts and portray a possible version of the actual events. More dumb stuff at http://www.darts-page.comFrom Laser: "The forum is the place where combat (real time) flight simulator fans come to play turn based strategy combat."
