I've picked up a second monitor that I want to add to my set-up. I'd like to be playing a game on my main screen and have e-mail,YT,Twitch etc running on the second. If I'm in a game how do I access the second screen. My sister uses a similar set-up but she doesn't game she just has to move the mouse across. Wouldn't a game 'capture' the mouse and prevent this?

If you're wondering why I just don't try it,the spare monitor is on temporary loan for a week or 2.

Thanks guys.

When I had a setup like that, it was often annoying. Most games had to be in windowed mode and so the cursor would run off screen, annoyingly. Others would lock to the game screen. Some don't alt-tab well to give access to the screen, although I could see it. The inconsistency was a PITA to me.

That's what I was worried about. Looks like a better bet is just to have my laptop open next to me although it takes up much more desk space. Thanks Raw.

When modding games, I play on the center monitor -- but, must perform some nearly-concurrent tasks on the two side monitors in desktop mode. That is, I play, and I watch the related non-game action in the side monitors. Then, at certain points while playing, I must access the side monitor applications.

One standard way to "leave the game" and go to "desktop" is: Press alt-tab -- gives you the desktop (game not showing in center monitor) as long as you want it. You can move all over the two or three monitors and do normal Windows tasks. Your game will show in the Taskbar as a highlighted icon. Click on the Taskbar game-icon to get back in the game.

To be clear, the applications in the side monitors show all the time during the game. They do not disappear. So, you could, for example, watch your email application.

Just what I do, FWIW. I presume there are other ways.

Windowed mode for games is the only way to go. Windowed-borderless may be an option, but like RK said, it's annoying when your mouse goes off-screen and you lose control of your game.

The only real use of a second screen is to monitor things like hardware usage, or teamspeak to see who's talking. Maybe put a manual on the other screen. Just don't expect seamless interaction between games and programs on the two screens. frown

Speaking of off-screen mouse input, this raises some serious questions when setting up Helios, since touchscreen input on a virtual control panel inherently requires clicking outside of the game window.

I haven't really sat down and done it yet, but now that I've rearranged my monitors after finally finding a worthy CRT alternative (RIP FW900), I have some room to attempt that.

The monitor to the right's mainly just for communication apps, media players and hardware usage monitoring. Keeps the middle two free for gaming and productivity.

In most cases, though, I simply just Alt-Tab in and out of games with no problem. Exclusive fullscreen is still mandatory for many older games that predate a "borderless windowed" option, though they also have a tendency to use much lower resolutions and screw with your screen layout a bit until closed or tabbed out.

Helios gets around this somehow... smile Doesn't seem to be an issue for DCS or BMS.

Helios works because the Application requires user to run Sim in Windowed Mode.

And the Actual Display Area of the Helios Screen is part of the Range for DCS when You configure the monitor lua.

I have a Logi G15 keyboard and can see music playing, TS, and CPU usage right there, no 2nd monitor needed. smile

Maybe in DCS, but not in BMS.
